Should we add an LED Growers sub-forum to RIU Indoor?

Got my LED on in my sig..

I voted yes, woulda voted HELL Yeah if it was a choice. Hid systems are wasteful of energy and is old technology, like the incandescent.
 
You said it! People will find out soon enough. We need this subforum to have a good solid LED resource for people to both learn and see results.

NASA plans to use LED lighting to grow crops for crews to eat on long missions like to Mars. LED's would last the length of the round trip unlike any other light source.
 
NASA does indeed grow with LEDs. The technology is here. Prices will soon come down and the red 660 nm diode is being used in newer LED systems as is white. I'm excited to be growing with LEDs. I doubt anything will run as cool with as little power.
 
They are pretty cheap.

You can get a 300w panel for $500. Or spend $200 on a ballast, $200 on a hood, 100 on some decent bulbs, $200 for a can fan and ducting....How is HPS/MH cheaper than LED?
 
Ok for example lets say Im going to buy 2x1000w HPS for flowering, and I want to switch over to LEDs how many watts of LEDs would I need equivelant? And would it grow the same buds?
 
I would say you would need somewhere in the 900w range in LED's to match 2KW HPS. You will probably grow a higher quality bud with the 900w LEDs.
 
That proves nothing other than you will spend $825 on 2000w worth of those HPS setups, and you will really be pulling around 3000w after you factor in those ballasts. Then keep those fuckers cool! Add an A/C for $300-$400.

LED DOMINATES. Admit it. lol.

I thought you might like that. lol I have been researching, and they say LED's do well in veg but still don't quite add up to HPS in the flowering department. I dunno man I'm still waiting to see...
