Prof gonna ask a silly question, but it will clear up something for me..... those little branches that gonna get trimmed can they be used as clones if the plant is still in veg state. If not is there any use for them.
That is what they are perfect for! Ideally you want to pull clones from the bottom of a plant because there are more hormones for rooting. When using scrog, lower branches aren't always the most ideal choice as some of them may be thicker and branch better than a smaller stalk from the middle of the plant thats just trying to shoot upwards.
I like to take clones right before flowering (a week or 2), at that point I know exactly what I want in the screen and what I can clip. For my current run I took clones about 3 days ago and still have another 3-4 weeks before flowering, mostly because I wanted to get my aero cloner up and working, get the kinks out of it before it becomes an immediate issue.
Wow, I get so rambly.. anyways, yes, trimmings are always a good way to take clones, most likely you will trim 10x more than you can clone so you really get to chose clones that look good and you have a selection.
As an aside, I broke the cardinal rule of cloning by the way; I have 2 VKs "brewing" at the moment, it's obvious to me which is the better pheno but I took a small clone from the shorter, slower growing VK because of one subtle difference. The "more healthy" looking VK has some red in her stalks with forest green leaves, the weaker of the 2 has very dark leaves, a little glossy and deep purple between them, I know the clone from the weaker VK will be a weaker clone, grow slower and produce less fruit
but... I'm a sucker for purple. I know, worst reason to take a clipping but it happened so... theres that.
