yes totally agree, even if they produce the same amount of light, cfl light penetration is way more worse, thats why when you hang on a ceiling you cannot see a thing and you need three of them ) There was a pic with a scale somewhere in RIU how cfl light diminishes, I cannot find the thread but I found the pic. As you can see 4 foots and you get only 1/16 haha...I just replaced my garage light. It was a 100 watt incandesent bulb and replaced with a 100w equivilant 23w cfl. Not even close to the same amount of light. I would need three of the fuckers to see anything in there.
Until now I never looked into HPS due to the heat output and price. I just followed your link and was wondering does it produce a lot of heat? 16k lumens and 150w consumption.. sounds so right, and comparing to 8 cfl 25watters setup it's even cheaper. I pay like 9bucks per 1 25w cfl...You definitely want to get something like a 150 watt hps or something soon for flowering unless you want to flower them outside.

but I have a limited growing space like this:

its actually not the 1meter in length but 4meters, its a small room under roof, but I can make only passive ventilation I mean just circulate the air. Do you think heat can be an issue? I saw that this lamp can be 6-8" away from plant tops, so I believe that would do perfect for me, however as always, I cannot find where I could buy it in europe...
That's the inverse square law, it applies to all light. The reason you get greater brightness is that an incandescent is a point source of light; whereas a fluorescent is putting out light from the length of the tube.yes totally agree, even if they produce the same amount of light, cfl light penetration is way more worse, thats why when you hang on a ceiling you cannot see a thing and you need three of them ) There was a pic with a scale somewhere in RIU how cfl light diminishes, I cannot find the thread but I found the pic. first of all you misread my post 150W not 150$ ) I said that I was unable to find cheap ballast for 70Watt or 100Watt lamp, so I had to buy 150W ballast and HPS lamp. it costed 55eu, 29eu ballast, 14eu for the lamp, 5 for E40 socket and 9 for delivery. Reflector I am doing myself, I will adapt it for vegging with cfl and flowering with hps. so in total for those mats plus delivery is around 72$.. God damn it, here all the growers in the Netherlands seem to be industrial, cause you could get 400W/600Wbalast + lamp + reflector + socket for like 50eu haha. I miss those days when I was in US. Life seemed to be so easy )$150? That would get you:
