LightBulbs Keeps Blowing Out

ok... this is the idea...

screw lightbulb into a Y splitter... Y splitter into a socket.... socket wired to a plug.... when i plug it in... KABLOOM... well its not a KABLOOM.. but you know what i'm saying...it keeps blowing out....

Y-splitter says 660W and 250 V... the socket says 660 W and 600V.... i'm thinking this is the amount of power it can handle instead of this is the amount it generates.. so i don't see y its blowing out... i attached white wire to white wire.. black to black.. so thats not it....

do yall think its the Y splitter or the socket? or is it the wattage and volts?

or should i rewire the bulbs to each other... but to turn them on was my concern... i just wanted to plug it in whenever i wanted the lights on

this is blowing my shit....

Check the 'Y' adapter, the center spring contact my not be hitting the end of the bulb, If it touches the side metal of the bulb it will blow it. Check the center contact on the socket you screw the Y adapter into, it may be off there. Please make sure everything is disconnected from the power. You'll really blow yer shit if it's plugged in. :)

that didn't even cross my mind...

i just checked...and truthfully..i can't tell....they seem to be placed in the center in the right position.... but like i said...i can't tell... but they don't appear crooked or anything....

can i use any plug? for instance... a television gets thrown out or like an old playstation 2 plug.... because i noticed they have volts on them too... i just don't get it

but thanx for responding

I use computer cords to wire lights, have you tried putting the bulb in the single socket to see if it is the y connector or not?

u use computer power supply cords? those cords? for real?

i thought of orange cords also... didn't want to use my power supply cords since they cost way more than the orange cords...

also, how do you have your lights set up? meaning... how do you have them wired to the cord? is it one light per cord or do you use y splitters? very interested.....

I bought a couple of flood lights that are supposed to be mounted to the wall but instead of mounting them I just hooked up the cord to it. I'm not using them right now because I have my 400w MH for veg, but I am in the process of making a couple of reflectors to mount them to. I'm going to start using them when I start flowering next week to add some more red light, I'll try to get some pics up after I have them mounted to the reflectors.

The only reason I used PC cords is because I had a building full of old computers so the cords were free, and by old I mean a commodore 64, a IBM PS/1, and a few others I don't recall lol.

ha... a commodore?...wow..make a museum...ha.. thats cool that you have access to such things...i'm a person that usually cuts the cords off of old appliances or keep the adapters before i throw the stuff out...which is very handy for wiring stereos, replacing messed up plugs on appliances, etc... ha, got that from my family..

but i have figured out my problem....it was actually the cord... i figured it out when i was looking up the info for wiring a computer fan... one guy explained everything perfectly and basically made me realize i was using TOO MUCH POWER....

the socket is 660 W... but the Y-Splitter is 250 W... but the problem was the cord.. it is 300 W.. it is too powerful for the Y-Splitter... so i gradually worked my way up from a 12V adapter to a 250V cord cuz i was scared of blowing the lightbulb again... and i was right.. it seems ok with a 125V cord also... as long as the power source don't exceed the capabilities..everything should be ok...just like with the cpu fan..haha..

thats crazy how looking up something different, although related...helps you figure out your problems..

thanx for trying to help

making reflectors out of what? if you don't mind me asking.. is reflectors really that important?.. becuz, i was planning on just painting the inside of the cabinets white... but it seems like you're working with a larger space...so i see why reflectors are important

Ya my grow area is fairly large compared to most closet or tent grows, I'm just making them out of sheet metal and painting them white on the reflective side so that I don't lose half of my light.
