Little tent grow

Thought I'd start a little grow journal, mostly for myself. Feel free to comment in any useful or encouraging ways.

I've been through a few grows in the past, but this is the first in several years.

Setup:
HLG qb 288 v2 135w 3000k
2'x2'x4' Coolgrows tent
Happy Frog soil
no exhaust or scrubber yet (I'll add those in a couple of weeks)
nutes TBD... the HF is probably enough until well into flowering

Currently the setup is in the attic, but I'll likely end up moving the grow to a closet as the weather gets warmer, and then setup the closet for flowering and the tent for vegging.

Left: freebee GSC seeds from TSSC... been up for about 10 or 12 days.
Back: Peak Seeds SkunkBerry... about a week
Right: Peak Seeds Texada Skunk... about a week.

I tried starting a Cherry Grapefruit from Kera seeds too, but it never germinated. Oh well, bit of a bummer.

I transplanted the TS from a smaller cup, and tucked it in a bit (filled up soil around the stem where it had stretched a bit) yesterday, but it's not looking happy today, so I raised the light a bit (so it's higher than it needs to be at the moment). I'm running the QB at about 50% at the moment, but I had it only about 10" from the plants, I was thinking it might have been a bit too much.

I'm only planning on vegging for another week or two, then topping them and switching to 12/12. If both of the Peaks end up been fems, I'll run out of space really quick. Besides, the cupboard is pretty bare, and I want to get on with it, even if the yield isn't great. But then I'll start some others while these are flowering.

Nice little setup. I’m in, I’ll follow along. Sounds like you’ve got the right idea with a short veg, it’s going to get pretty full in there. It might be worth setting up a scrog.

I also have a couple grow spaces that I’m running 190w QB’s.

Yeah, I had been planning on scrogging it, but was a bit unsure about how to set it up so could water them right (allowing for removal of runoff, in particular). And, when the tent hit more than 90 degrees the other day when it was only about 55 outside, it became clear that I'd have to move the whole apparatus before too long. So I figured scrog wasn't the right move.

I'm thinking topping and some LST.

A few days later, and some definite signs of progress. Some cool temps... it was down to 56 degrees in the tent the other morning right after lights on.

The SB and TS were both looking a little wilty/crispy on the first set of leaves, but looking better now. I had the light a bit close, and I think uncut Happy Frog is a bit hot for such young plants.

Gotta admit, I wasn't expecting too much from that freebie GSC, but i'm really liking the way it's looking so far. Early days, but looks promising... has some definite purple to it. Two weeks, give or take a couple of days.

Roots have pretty well colonized the part cups, and are starting to coil at the bottom. Will re-pot on the weekend.

Another week on...

Transplanted into 2.5 gallon pots, which is what I'll finish them in. Topped them this morning above the 4th node. Will switch to flower pretty soon. like I said, I'd like to get this one in the books and a some flowers in the cupboard.

Far Red boards and driver are on the way. New veg light is in the house, but not built yet.

Still thinking I'll move these to a closet when I have some time to clear it out, and then I'll start a few more to get a mini perpetual going.

Anyway...

GSC (it's got some bushy secondary growth coming on):

Still running happy frog in the 2.5g pots?

I’ve been starting my seeds in Ocean Forest lately and have been good so far. *knock on wood*

Gonna veg for a couple weeks before flip?

Yup, still running HF. I bought two bags of it before I got started. Will probably switch it OF now that I know that CountryMax sells Fox Farm for a fair bit cheaper than the brew and grow.

Not sure how much longer I'll veg. I'm a bit tempted to just flip it in a few days. Not too worried about yield on this one.

Also have some other seeds burning a hole in my pocket.

4/20 update...still in veg for another day or two. Was having some problems with the TS in particular twisting and drooping. The were looking better for a few days, so i started doing a bit of trimming and bending on some of the bigger fan leaves to allow more light through. And took a couple of cuttings from the GSC, which hasn't been a quick grower, but super easy going (and is from a feminized seed). Just watered again this morning, so I'm hoping they'll perk. A bit of the droopiness here is from my training/bending the fan leaves.

I started a few more seeds, and I also picked up the gear to build a DWC, cause I'm jealous of watching the fast growth the hydro guys get... and apparently I just can't seem to stop buying stuff.

Also, pretty impressed at how tight these stayed even being vegged under the 3000k QB. Kind of make me regret having just picked up a 5000k for veg... I wouldn't mind a bit more stretch.

Looking good, funny I have the same "sign" on one of my plants at the moment, hopefully for both of us, just some frekish growth and not a male...

Made the flip. Today's the first day of 12/12.

Running a far red EOD treatment with 2x HLG QB 3 Far Red. hung out at lights off to make sure it all worked. At the moment I have the reds coming on 5 minutes before the main light cuts, and staying for 10 minutes after. I could probably sync them closer, and run them for a few minutes less, but I suspect it doesn't really make much of a difference. They say it can speed up finish by 7-10 days, it's worth a shot

Setup (should really get those wires off the heatsink and driver):

Oohh... the reds came on:

And the main went off...:

Three days into 12/12 and the stretch is on. On Thursday I feed 1/2 strength Advanced Nutrients "Grow," (I think I did anyway, hard to figure the numbers using it in soil) to help make the trans, first feeding other than the HF. Also feed 1/2 strength Cal/Mag. Will feed 1/2 strength GH FloraNova Bloom with next watering (will switch to something else after I finally finish that bottle).

No clear signs of sex yet, any day now, since these plants are over a month old.

This tent is about to get filled up.

Ugh... the waiting is the hardest part.

Not even waiting for them to finish... just to show sex.

Both the TS and the SB are showing lots of female looking preflowers, but no pistols yet. None from the GSC yet either. But I'm feeling pretty sure that I got a bit lucky in both of the Peak seeds.

I wonder if the cool temps lately has slowed them down a bit.

Hey bro !!! Just some info that helped me in the past with soil grows. keep your soil aerated by squeezing the pots it'll helps loosen up the soil allowing more oxygen too the roots that will also help promote growth also you’re in the attic so are you supplying with proper c02 levels ?
