Lollipopping in flower

Hey everyone! What’s everyone’s preference on lollipopping in flower? Once i flip my plants I clean them up pretty good but by the end of stretch there is still a good amount of branches and bud sites that get covered inder the trellis. Right now im on day 18 and buds are starting to form. In past this where I get cautious and tend not to do anything because I don’t want to stress them. However when I do lollipop in the beginning of flower my plants look even better like they weren’t even phased. I’m wondering if the same will happen or am I going to stress them. I was told it’s safe to lollipop all the way up to 21 days but as soon as buds start forming i get hesitant. Any suggestions? Should i get rid of the larfy stuff or deal with it when trimming

Lollipop at week 3 of flower, good to go. Your plant should be finished with the stretch and can now focus on developing bud sites.

I lollipop around Day 25 of flower. My rule of thumb for what gets trimmed:

• Anything below the SCROG net ... small branches, leaves, whatever is down there.
• Any branch or leaf above the SCROG net that is small, underdeveloped and essentially buried below the main canopy.
• Any fan leaf fingers that cover up bud in the secondary layer. I will remove portions of the leaf to expose the bud below to better light. If that is not possible then that particular leaf will be removed.

Agree 100%, exactly the same things i look for when making final clean up after stretch

I’m working with a trellis now, and trying to control my stretch. I have been snipping the lowers that aren’t going to make it to at least above the 1st net (bottom layer) and weaving so that bud sites are spread out. Mainly on the plants that are getting tallest out of the 4 to try and keep it down. Once bud sites start blooming I’m searching every square to tuck & bend to expose as many sites to direct light. After week 3 I won’t touch them til maybe week 5-6.. then I’ll inspect & do more tucking. The area of production I shoot for is 12”-14” deep into the canopy. Nothing else is worth keeping.

Do you notice any stress after? Also how much do you usually take off that late in flower? I’m noticing on some plants i might have to clip a lot and I do have some little buds already

Nope. The top canopy looks better after the lollipop.

Late in flower ... not that much. I might remove a few more leaf fingers here and there or try to tuck leaves out of the way. But from Week 5 onwards I do not remove much from the main canopy.

One grow I attempted the SCHWAZZ and found that the lack of leaves didn't give me as high a yield as when there are more fans in the canopy. So I do try to leave as many leaves on the plants once the lollipop is done.

I don’t lolipopp on a certain day, I do it when I have time. I try my best on day 1 of flower, but never had time this run so I did it on day 6 of flower. I’ll do it again as close to day 21 as I can then not touch nothing until harvest

Agreed. I should have said around Day 25 and not specifically that day.

Case 'n Point - this past August we were indulging in the plethora of food and drink in Old Town Quebec when Day 25 arrived. We returned three days later and I lollipopped on Day 28.

( Well ... Day 29 actually. When I got home I kind of needed quite a few winks first. )

Agreed ... that's a great lollipop. An 8" to 10" deep canopy then nothing else below that.

I lollipop mine on demand! Usually I’ll trim lower branches that have no chance and any foliage that is too bushy going into flower, followers by another branch and leaf topping to open up new flowering sites after the stretch. I’ll also pluck leafs as I go through flower,usually the first 5 weeks I find myself coming back every week to pluck new leaves that’s covering up other flowers. I’ve taken branches late flowering and never seen signs of stress, leaves are free game imo, they literally drop leaves on their own accord. I’m also light handed at trimming, I still have large leafs 5 weeks into flower

When growing bigger plants in pots I supercrop around day 10 after flip. I try not to after 2 weeks. and then I stake, tie and lollipop just short of 3 weeks from flip. Other than that, all the other training was done in veg.
When growing more smaller plants i’ll supercrop, if needed, right at 2 weeks maybe a little sooner and drop the trellis down on them and clean up the bottoms a little.

Thanks for the tips everyone! Did half my plants yesterday and the rest today. The plants i did yesterday were perking up nice today. Great sogn they didn’t stress at all. When i lollipop in the beginning they always start praying the day after. I was jist nervous because they already have buds and are getting ready for their next phase. Every 3 plants i filled a 5 gal bucket of bullshit. Going to be so much happier when I’m trimming my his batch
