Long term storage in vacuum sealed jars, should I use humidipaks?

Disagree.

Curing buds are constantly giving off water vapor; that's an essential part of the process. Soooo.. humidity changes (increases) should be expected within the enclosed environment. That's exactly why you have to "burp" the containers at predetermined intervals... to release the vapor pressure (lower the RH) and then stabilize to a healthy level.

The best solution is using a BudVac jar with the humidipak. The Budvac comes with a vacuum pump to pull all of the air out.

i find drying and curing.. and then getting the rh down to between 35-45 then vac sealing the buds works the best(don't vac seal it all the way or it'll brick). air degrades bud... if you keep the jars closed most likely they'll stay.. but if you open them.. they will get all old and stale. they will ONLY turn brown when the water content is more than the oil content..

I have the last bit of a harvest from March 2013. It's been vacuum sealed jars the entire time. Jars are painted black and stored in a cool place. The thc has degraded a little but the bud is golden in color and smoother than I've ever smoked. It's still great blue cheese. It's easily stronger than anything I smoked as a kid. Easily. Old thread..sorry!

Btw...got this from another site...from Boveda.

"Boveda packs work great with vacuum sealing and does not interfere with the process of hydration or with our pack.

Boveda packs also do not leach flavor/salt/anything into your cannabis or container.

Here's a tip for your mason jars and to keep the lid sucked on.

Throw in one of those iron hand warmer packs before sealing it up. As I understand the process, the hand warmers work by releasing heat as the iron and whatever inside oxidizes. So once you tighten the seal, the hand warmer will begin to oxidize, using up all the oxygen inside. No oxygen = no oxidation.

The process will use up the available oxygen creating a vacuum seal and, once the oxygen is used, the chemical reaction will stop.
