First post, decided to join here because when i was a much younger lad figuring all this out, roll it up was where i lurked and learned the most IIRC lol.Ehhh, i decided i might as well join a forum and do a grow log, considering the changing of laws and whatnot in recent years. Feel absolutely free to post on my journal!
I grew for ages as an illicit basement grower with 2x1kw HID DWC setup. Moved to kansas city and managed some grows commercially for a couple years. Larger scale hydro systems. Then i actually worked a well paying government job for a bit that will remain un-named. (nothing to do with law enforcement, more to do with meteorology) after that which had me very busy.
Ive recently moved elsewhere in the country. And where i live now im not to worried about growing. I was going to do some DWC, but the closet i have here fluctuates too much in temp so ill just be doing a small soil grow inside under full spectrum LED in quite a dirty closet. Ill be improving the setup in the coming months. Most will be going outside this season, i have a lot of good land at my disposal now.
All genetics are crosses/genetics i made myself back in kansas city. Names are mine and my old roomate's names. Ill include a little type-up of the known lineages down below. Including a better explanation of my thoughts on "4 old deadhead's sativa beans"
This grow will also be a way for me to do a little pheno hunting and source clones.
Ive started:
3 Gobnugget fem F1
3 Peaceblaster Fem F1
2 Biggs ---- Fem F2
4 old deadhead's sativa beans----???? His buds were just big pointy christmas trees that tasted as good as pine-sol smells, in the best way possible that i know a lot of others miss too. The top most my seeds came from (about 50) weighed clos to 10g and it was absolutely connoisseur grade sativa goodness that's hard to find. Honestly im excited about these the most.
These genetics were just crosses made for me to toy with on my own time, but never really got around to hunting them like they warrant. Life got away from me (no free time) for about half a decade
Peaceblaster fem F1
Gobnugget Fem F1
Biggs
The raspy old deadhead's sativa beans. 2 trifoliates, one was fused.
One of these old sativas looked like a graboid from tremors to begin with. Was a fused trifoliate. I used a sterile scalpel and careful sliced along the fuse lines to open the seedling up to let the true leaves out. If i were a betting man, id say it's gonna be just fine, if just a little behind the others. I don't mind it.
Graboid trifoliate Pre-surgery
an amount of time later
Now
The mix is my own compost made over last summer and this winter cleaning up the yard here, some scrap food, and goat monure, bout it. I mixed it about 60/40 with coir. Didn't use any perlite, couldn't find any locally and wanted to get started. They don't seem to mind, didn't think they would, and i don't either. Will be watering appropriately. The mix doesn't clump and aerates nicely so didnt stress it.
I'm probably only going to keep one Biggs inside right now and flower her somewhat small. I have several of that fem f2 in the fridge and they are all very similar to one another anyway. Im planning on grabbing some more full spectrum led's. Ill probably end up with 3 in this closet space. It still needs work and ill show more of it as that work gets done. Its just one dimmable LED right now and one fan nothing special. I'll show more as theres more to show so i don't get eaten alive unnecessarily by internet land. I usecheap gear for the most part and always have when it's for my own grows. I have several years of electronics troubleshooting and repair experience from tube amplifiers to switch mode pwoer supplies and LED drivers, and a pretty good stock of most electrical components on hand i'd need to repair most electronics, and if kept cool its the driver that always fails in these cheap full spectrum led's anyway.
At some point by fall ill probably chuck a 4x4 or 5x5 down in the basement where i can keep bucket temps a lot more stable, more easily. But im in the middle of some renovating/finishing work down there and it goes slow so when self done usually. Ha! I would like to get 2 or 3 DWC buckets going for some quicker turn arounds with larger yields. The cannabis is more expensive in the pot shops here then i wan't to pay This will probably only be an outdoor/mini indoor log through this season, but will probably slowly transitions to a bit bigger DWC only growlog taking place down stairs. Playing it all by ear and reserve the right to change any and all plans or completely disappear all together
I also don't keep track of days in my own personal grows (or for anything really anymore), it has over the years become a very tedious thing to me, so i dont do it on my own time. Pretty sure i put seeds on towel like a week ago or something like that.
The biggs and peaceblaster seeds are both about 5 years old (Also the most vigorous to start, but seed keep for a VERY long time in the cold) The gobnugget seeds are about 3 years old, untested seeds. fridge stored. The old deadhead's beans i obtained this last winter on a trip back to missouri.
Biggs= Bubba kush x gelato f1 regular cross. Pheno hunted for two very similar females. two small clones were grown in a small tent together, one was forced to hermaphrodite. The seeds im calling biggs are these seeds. Ive grown 3 of them and so far theyve been similar enough to not justify giving them numbers. If stressed can hermie. But just a few little bananas and a seed or two per. No full male flowers.
Gobnugget= thin mint cookies x male seedsman original afgani #1 F1 cross. Male selected....
GG4 clone x selected F1 male (it was selected for tight node spacing and rapid flower development, didnt translate as wished really.) Female selected
Selected female clone X Blue dream male. (I traded some female bubba x gelato pollen for this male pollen to another Missouri area cat) Female selected. Gobnugget is an accidental F1 feminized cross of this selected female and Biggs. Grew them together once and had a family emergency and no one to plant sit. Left town for about 4 days leaving lights off (for safety) in a DWC grow. Came back and finished up. The Biggs spit a few bananas. The selected female clone did not. Her seeds were kept and labeled "Gobnuggets?"
I will likely be numbering the Gobnugget females at some point until i chose one. I'll prob just call it gobnugget then. I have never grown these seeds before.
Peaceblaster=
Ill be numbering these too. Ive done a couple of these, one was a heavily sativa dominant plant with hybrid vigor that would triple in size during flower, outyeild any of my indicas in grm/m3 metrics, be ready to pull in 55 days flat on a solid DWC run. It could do this in half the veg time of my Biggs while ending up twice the size and more then double the yield if you compared directly on a plant to plant basis.
Those old deadhead's beans= Is a non fem sativa cross that's supposed to be the original Jack Herrer x Original Big bud. Dude also, like many crazy old deadheads, has crazy old dead head stories. Said he's been running the same males and females for 30 years now and got both plants from a friend of Jack himself. The buds he shared were seriously massive, and seriously good. Had that sativa straight pine taste you just basically never find anymore. I got 2/4 trifoliates which is interesting, haven't had 50% trifoliates in any beans ive popped before, so i AM at least somewhat inclined to believe that wherever this seed stock originated, it's been inbred for several generations. So maybe it is an older genetic worth preserving or breeding??? I have pretty solid confirmation his claim of essentially inbreeding the same plants for 30 generations would play well with this % of likely inbred origin deformity. I have probably 50 more of these seeds too. More then ill ever need. The guy really just let his pollen chuck itself year after year never removing the males starting from just a couple plants if his story checks out. These seeds are very fresh. Big fat, very circular seeds with dark stripes, fridge stored
Ill gather up some old pics of my DWC home grows and post em at some point. I don't feel like it right now, this post got way bigger then i intended. Im sorry my current photos suck, im using a modern flip phone. I hope i compiled this in an easy enough to read manner.

x forced hermaphrodite Columbian landrace sativa - F1 fem cross (Yup ....you can go back and look and let that one sink in for second. You can't have any. Sorry) The phenos ive run tended to test in the mid 20sSelected female clone X Blue dream male
