Looking to Upgrade Lighting - Quantum Boards? ...

So my current build is a Vero 29se setup (24cobs) for 1600W in a 4x8. (1600W = 32sqft)


I'm looking to add another 6000-10,000W (budget dependent) (in a new larger space) and was looking at the HLG V2 R-Spec lights. (However they seem to be 550W that covers a 4.5x4.5 area, as recommended by the HLG website) (550W = 20sqft) ...which would in comparison to my Vero's translate to 880W = 32sqft... about Half of my current setup)

My current setup is actually really good in that small space. However I don't think I want to cover a 10x10 or 20x20 room with COB's.

The Vero's put out 162lm/W where as the Q-Boards put out 168lm/w.

What I am wondering is, would that 550W still be somewhat comparable to my build in terms of yield and light penetration etc? Is this what commercial growers are using at scale and is it ideal to setup in this manner? (ie: I feel like that Q-board, the 550W should be more like 750W for that space coverage when comparing it to the Vero COB LED's?) Or should I not be comparing them to my COB's at all?

Samsung strips put out damn near 200lm/w

Of I were you, I'd buy a TON of 4' strips and get the quantity discount, and build as many 2X4(for morevhanging heights) or 4X4 fixtures as you need. You can even re use some of your drivers if you wanted to probably.

Or buy Chinese boards from kibgbrite or meiju and get an even better deal. Shipping is the most expensive thing usually.
Buy your drivers all locally from a very reputable seller for warranty reasons.

From what I was reading Chinese Boards may not be as efficient/as advertised compared to proper HLG Boards?

If the savings is significant (thus allowing me to add more watts of lighting) then I may go Strips. But still leaning towards Boards atm.

If money ain't a thang, hlg boards all day. But to cover THAT much of a space, Chinese board will be significantly more affordable. Unless you get in touch with HLG and see what kind of volume discount they'd do on just strictly a board sell. The rest you'd wanna build and source yourself anyways.

v1 288 boards all the way right now at the $30 price they are at. Ive been thinking about buying a handful just in case they run out.
Theyre a comparable price with china boards because everyone only wants 301 diodes.
301s arent THAT much better and with that much wattage it could potentially save you thousands.

Money is always a thing! ;) But I figured start small, 6-10units and then I can always add more units when I have the budget. I just don't want to be at scale and then have issues, then kick myself for not spending another grand or two up front for HLG boards.

(...The other thing is, I've ran cheap china HPS systems in the past, and then when I switched to a proper brand HPS bulb the comparison was night and day. So I'm a little iffy spending thousands on China Boards.)

That's a good idea too, I defiantly should ask them if they offer multi-unit discounts.

Hmm, wow that's like half the price of the new boards. I'll check them out and see if I can find some comparisons to judge against. :)
