LST Problems? Questions...

I really want some experienced lst'ers to respond. I will be in day 21 of 12/12 this monday. Iv'e lst'd throughout flowering thus far.
Q.- Do i continue to tie down, should i release restraints, and does lst during flowering slow down the process overall?
Problems I think I have, its getting super crowded, 1st grow, so 1st lst. When I let main (soon to be cola) go it gets way higher then the rest of my potential bud sights. Im open to all questions and info. If you are experienced and have pics, show me for comparrison. I just want this bagseed grow to go well before I order Good beans.
Temps-79-85 f (lowest being at night highest only about 1-2hr through the day) humidity stays in the low 50's. She was born on 07/03/11 41 days old today. Started on 12/12 19 days ago.
Lights-(2) 42 watt cfl (2700 lumens and light temp) and (2) 23 watt cfl (1100 lumens and 6500 light temp).
Water- ph @6.5-7 may be off due to testing with pool tester.

I get 95% of my info here, I do have problems sometime searching for info, so I google. I ask this question here because I like it here the most. Please help me out. Feel free to post pics, links, whatever you have that can enlighten me and our situation.

You need those plants on low level lights running 18/6, I personally think that they are way to small to be put into flowering. Those lights are fine, I guess, till they are taller, once they are larger than 20 inches you can put them into flowering. When your flowering them, sure you could use those lights but your yield is not going to be shit, maybe an ounce or 2, if you go to a grow shop or go online you can get a $20 400watt HPS bulb, then another 150 will get you a ballast, and 20 will get you a hood. So in all this will cost around 200 bucks, not including wiring. Or after you veg it to about 20" you can just put it under old faithful, the sun. Using the sun or a hps bulb you can get 8 ounces or more. Hope this helps.

I wouldnt lst much more.Tie the main stem so that the main cola is facing down. you should get a whole lot of side shoots. Next time start flowering once you have many side shoots each having at least 5 nodes.

lst is light stress training

I would keep LST till week 4 or 5 than stop as most or the growth after that is weight.

Light stress training, where you tied down branches and they bend themselves back toward the light creating a canopy so all the plant gets more light.

@beginner if i get an oz from these lights I will always grow with these lights lol. I can deal with that. I am however looking at other lighting options. (150w hps, 2' t5's, or more cfl's) Im growing quietly because of space, temps, and smell, 1-2 plants at a time for personal use, I dont medicate heavily.

@smizl thanks for the tip, i have tried searches somewhat like this, youd be amazed how you can search things different and come up with results. I actually have quite a few side shoots now, I should have started lst earlier, lol, as i sais b4, its my first im learning. When i did outdoors years ago, we grew it just like a weed and sexed em.

bJust let her go if youe already in day 21 of 12/12. Lights are a bit weak but you can switch them up to 150w's, personally id prefer 6 t5's in both colour spectrums. Peace

@woodsman, thanks for the input, I have seen both of these threads, and have learned much from them, where im at now though is what bothers me. Everything is just crowded and dont seem right. Im also really concerned about LST and flowering. Does it slow things down for flowering at all? Should i Trim, Should I leave it alone, I dunno. I just want heaps of info and variations of what others have done, with pics. lol It seems im not askin much, but I know I am. lol

@king The lights I was looking at may have been t5, I'll double check. They are only 24 inches though, is that sufficient? I was going to get 2-3 sets (4-6 bulbs) from lowes and order my tubes from amazon. If I keep my restraints and let her do her thing, what do I do about main cola being taller than other budsites? Just adjust my lights accordingly? Thanks again.

Cant you tie the main cola down a bit,i say cola, it aint a coal yet! there will always be one main and dominant branch, usually the tallest. And i veg with t5's. They dont match hps for penetration but a wall of light with multiple light sources, yer you can yeild ok with these, takes some lst and practice but i love t5's. Get proper flowering bulbs that have the right light spectrum, get red and blue and mix the colours for best results. Damn i love t5's, will be a definate step up from those cfl's. I use the 4 way t5 lightwave unit from maxibrite, keeps the wiring down to 1 wire and looks good too, just need to hang it up, plug it in and off you go, real sweet unit for beginners. Just make sure the two plants fit nicely under it. Hps 250w is a good starter light too but i am bias towards t5's anyday, not the best but lots of fun. Peace

LST will not slow the plants growth. You can trim your plants by breaking off the large fan leaves that are not getting any light and you can trim the bottom branches that don't get light also, this will direct most of the growth to the top of the plant.

While tweaking I found Fungus gnats, tweaking on those now, lol Trying too anyway Ive got to try and find something, suggestions please. flowering looked better today more hairs popping up, Ill post back in a bit. Also I have 120 actual watts (cfl) is this not good enough? Its one plant. I may have to wait till next grow b4 i order better lights.

I use the envirolite brand cfls only, 125watt in red or blue 2700k or 6500k i think and they do an ok job for one small plant, only need a small fan, check what colour temperature yours is, see if its good for growing plants.

Also it wont stunt in flowering from lst but lower wispy buds take a slight bit longer to grow or mature, constantly shaded areas can some times lead to lower growth slowing slightly, no big deal if you get good top buds. Sometimes you can move a leaf to the side to allow light to penetrate deeper. Once they are flowering then they dont get too much taller more bush out with lots of leaves and new stems.

Go with whatever you like, should be good to start of under a 120w cfl maybe with the others too. Peace

Post a pic of your setup i will help you. You need to replace your 23w cuz they are old and should have a rating of 1600lums DO NOT BUY anything above 42 watt cfls not worth the money you only get one grow or so like 3 to 6 months. Get a bathroom strip light some sheet metal some Y socket adapters and you have a lot better coverage then one 125w-250w the lower wattage CFLs put out the BEST lum per watt rating so you get more lums per watt of power more bang for your buck. Or you could get outlet to socket adapters and use power strips or surge protectoers even extension cords. you could make a light with PVC pipe and sockets make it to cover your grow space. Emergency blankets and double sided tape work good for the walls and if you blow a fan on the cfls they stay around room temp or right at 76 degrees least the 26 watt GE ones i use do. Pc fans work badass for cooling and are almost a must. Lets get this shit banging bro HTG supply has a 150w HPS for 70 i have the one with the remote ballast not the one with it built into the hood loving it so far. Oh my power strips have switches on the outlets so i can turn them on and off pretty cool. Clamp work lights with y socket adapters what else hmmm if you have a ?'s about CFL i probably have the answer. ALSO read this buddy you will end up buys a HPS down the road trust me and if you just go HPS now and maybe some $10 clamp work lights with $2 y sockets adapters with 23w 1600lum 6500K cfls you would be doing some real big things buddy. Thats under $150"for lights" About $50 for fan setup you can get a 12 pack of emergency blankets for $12 free shipping on amazon or like $3-$5 at a local store per one or a three pack. The big CFL you see is a 80w and i didn't like it at first but its what im running along with my 150w HPS now couldn't be happier but they MUST have their own fan when on or they get real hot the more wattage the CFL the hotter they are and the more it takes to cool your space meaning the more CFM you will need leading to more db/noise in the grow space. Im running 110CFM 37db and its around the same noise as a box fan on low- med so not much noise at all. Hope you dont mind i posted pics and i hope this shit helps ya get some ideas i so wish someone woulda thrown all this shit on me when i started instead of having to figure it out and read up on it myself.
