i contacted the company for more info on their unit. here is the message that i got back.
I would like to offer you some information and further clarification of our product to dispel any inaccuracies that are being posted. Also, please see the attached graph that shows our ACTUAL independent tested spectral output as compared to an eye hortilux blue 600 and 1000 watt HPS bulb.
1. We do not claim that our light produces IR. In fact we specifically DO NOT produce Infrared. IR is not useful for photosynthesis. If you want to heat your plant use a gas heater, it is more efficient...
2. It is true that in the first release of our web site and for a limited run of tech sheets, there was an error in the documentation. At our initial product launch, at the Indoor Garden Expo, we sold units on the basis that it was a 600 watt equivalent light. We have represented our light accurately and stand by our product.
3. We no longer use Philips Luxeon LED's. We now use a US made LED's that have over 70% more optical power than our previous Philips Luxeon LED's. According to independent testing, we DO provide the only true high powered 660 nm LED (peak response) LED on the market. In order to get this, we had to specify a special doping of AllinGaP LED's. We paid a considerable premium for these LED's but we felt it was important.
4. There are no Chinese made 660nm 1,3,5 watt LED's manufactured. We know, we have had meetings with most every LED manufacturer out there. Many Chinese LED makers claim that they provide a high power 660nm LED, but they all are standard AllinGaP LED's with a peak around 620 to 640 nm. We have done extensive spectroradiometric testing. Do not believe the claims unless they can provide the independent test data of the actual LED's shipped. Independent testing has confirmed that our light produces at least double the optical power over any Chinese "330 watt" light available from your average alibaba reseller of Chinese grow lights.
5. There have been claims that there is some sort of advantage to using more lower powered LED's. Typically 1 watt LED's can rarely be driven to their full power because they employ inferior thermal transfer mechanisms. They simply do not run as efficiently. Typical output for these devices are typically 65% of full rated power. We have found it more efficient to use more powerful LED's and high quality heat sinks with active thermal management. For the increased life of the product, we are driving our LED's at well below maximum capabilities. We could actually drive our LED's at 7 to 8 watts max.
6. We now offer a full 5 year guarantee, and are the only company to offer an upgrade program. Our lights are 100% US made.
7. We have two years of solid science behind us. UC Davis, Cornell, Duke University and commercial greenhouses use our products. We maintain our own growth labs that are open to visitors by appointment. We also work closely with universities and are in trials with other academic institutions throughout the country. Our commitment is to make the best light we can possibly make.
