LumiGrow ES 600w Challenge

here are some pics with an LED plant up next to an HPS plant. you can see what i mean by more bud sites. you can also see the difference in height between the two.

i will have the mid week update on Monday. let me know what yall think....

Dude, the LED's are so bushy! You can definitely see the stretch on the HPS. I can't wait to see the flowers! I guess it's gonna come down to bud size, 'cause it looks like the LED's are gonna have more buds. I can't wait for the price on LED's to come down! Pretty soon, {Hopefully}, they'll be like DVD players, a dime a dozen. Seems to me that there really isn't too much as far as technology to make them, I don't understand the high prices at all. Diodes are inexpensive... Hmm.. Keep up the awesome job Cali!

Great Test, Cali!!!!

The fact that the LED is bushy and smaller, means it is probably a better plant, overall. Those bud sites are impressive. It is a little hard to see the difference. maybe you could try using a flash? or at least maybe shine a white light over the bud when you next do a photo? A CFL would probably do the trick, since they have lots of green in the color.

oh and regarding the comment about LED's being cheap. I looked at trying to build my own light, but stopped once i added up the costs. The LED's alone cost nearly 400 dollars! then i had buy the constant current driver, that was another few hundred, and I had to find heatsinks, another hundred bucks. All told it was getting close to 800 bucks. Crazy how it adds up, the lumigrow guys cannot be making much profit!

4 WEEK FLOWER UPDATE......

the LED side took the 5ml of Bushmaster with some sensitivity. meanwhile the HPS took it with little problem, only showing slight leaf curl and tip burn. i turned the blue back up on the LEDs. we should start to really see some chunking during these next 2 weeks.

i would love to do a round with 2 LumiGrow units, and have a 400w or 600w HPS in between them. that shit would rock a 1000w HPS, hehehe.

thanks for the good words yall. im just tryin to keep it real, ya know? hehehe. i had the blue down to 5. i want to focus on weight and resin production now, so its back up to full blast.

That's amazing to me. The technology isn't space aged. It's really quite old, that's why you would think it would be a lot less, especially with the higher use of LED's throughout. I mean trailers running LED markers, flashlights, worklights. Maybe they are aware of the market & are taking advantage of the situation. Thanks for the financial update there justthefacts. Real Stunner.

you should look on the mygrow.eu site, theres a lad been developing his own panels for a while now, he's got 6 grow diarys on there. I genuinely believe led's are the way forward its just not viable economically at the moment - the new osram ostar led's which would be ideal are about 50 quid a shot and you still need a few of them.

take a look its one of the most eye opening sites i've came across

Great thread- I know you are using a high powered and expensive LED set-up; what about a less powerful, less expensive LED light for a smaller grow, like the one from HTG Supply? Any thoughts? The comparison here is awesome though. I have not bought any lights YET- and I am researching my options- this thread has helped a ton.

5 WEEK FLOWER UPDATE......

i have been having issues with internet service, so i am posting from another location at the moment. i should have this crap all straightened out real soon. anyways.....

the plants took the Bushmaster application a little harder than i would have expected. actually, all my plants in containers did. i am a soil bed grower, so going to pots was a new step for me. im guessing that they need only 1 or 2ml of Bushmaster, applied twice, as opposed to the 5ml that they received. all in all, they are pulling through and starting to fill out. i will know better for the next round of testing. lets have some pics.....

i applied the bushmaster at 2 weeks...so 3 weeks later, and its still effecting them. they are all starting to pull out of it now though. im kicking myself in the ass right now for that, hehe, but how was i to know, ya know? hehe. i have done alot of research about using it in containers as opposed to 4x4 soil beds. most container growers only use 1-2ml per gallon, and apply it twice.

MID WEEK UPDATE.....

both sides are still moving slowly, but growth seems to be catching up. the HPS buds are bigger, but the LED buds are sticky, stanky, and hard as fucking rocks. they have a much more aromatic smell to them. gonna be some bomb ass smoke. lets have some pics....

thanks for the good words yall. i have the lights at about 8" from the canopy right now.

really interesting. You said specifically that the LED side is hard as rocks. I wonder if its just hella dense. Its all about weight/quality from my perspective. Can't wait til harvest, plz don't abandon this thread like so many have been =)

Its tough to find full tests on LEDs, especially those that include harvest details.
