Major AC Problems Man

Whatsup guys,

I'm a CA patient and a caregiver for 6 patients and I just moved into a new house and I'm looking for some AC ventilation advice, any help would be much appreciated. Here's my setup:

Room 1 Sealed Veg Room: I am running 2 4ft 8 bulb T5's. This is a sealed room in the front of my house and I am running these lights 18/6 at night. This room without AC is getting up to 90 degrees. My problem is that I have the window blocked off and I am using my central AC. This is a newer house but for some reason there is very weak airflow going to that room. I have to constantly keep it on or turn it off for an hour at a time and the room will get down to 77 after being on for a few hours. I have closed off the other vents on that floor hoping that more airflow will be going to the room. This is a HUGE waste of energy because it is not doing much and it is cooling down that floor (really cold) when it does not need to be cooled down. I might try a register booster fan but there are too many mixed reviews on them. I have a portable AC unit but I do not want to open up that window because it is in the front of the house. I think the central AC going to that room is week because the duct is so long. Anything I can do? Should I just say fuck it and put the portable hoses up to the window? I don't have neighbors across the street.

Room 2 Sealed Flower Room: Ok, I had major problems with the Active Air 14,000 BTU AC with just running 2400 watts. Those things are crap for sealed rooms. This room is also in the front of the house and I do not want anything hanging out that window, or opening it up to shove the portable hoses against the window. The central AC going to that room has the SAME problem weak airflow. So, I have invested in a 24,000 watt Split System AC. I want to turn the digital ballasts up so I am running 4k watts. My problem with this room is that I have to install the Split System still and my HVAC buddy just finally got into the Union working 12 hours a day and hasn't been able to drive 30 min to my house to install it. He's been holding it off because it's going to be a bitch installing it because we have to run 20-30 feet of line.

The Split System I got is pre-charged and ready to go after checking for leaks and hooking it up. Should I just install it myself watching YouTube videos? Flowering is way past due and it just sucks man. Any advice would help.

Thanks guys.

Room 1 needs a return if you are using the split system designed for the house. Closing dampers to divert doesn't help and if you. are one of the lucky few to have had the system actually air balanced you've unfortunately just screwed it up. HVAC isn't about blowing cold air, it's about removing the heat and your air has no path back to the evaporator if that room is sealed. Room 2 , if you have a vacuum pump and micron gauge your buddy can probably walk you you through the install if you like home DIY stuff.

I have installed a couple now. 90% of the install you can easily do. I would mount the head unit and setup the condensor outside. Have everything ready for him including a steak dinner and he should have it running faster than he can eat that steak.

Grab some of this for your lineset flares.
http://hvacr-tools.com/nylog-blue-rt201b-gasket-thread-sealant/
Also don't over tighten the fittings if your buddy doesn't have a torque wrench for you to use. Not your normal torque wrench either, looks like this. http://hvacr-tools.com/yellow-jacket-60650-torque-wrench/
If you can't pull a vacuum below 200 microns that holds below 500 after 20 minutes take the time to find and fix the issue. Otherwise it will stop cooling due to low refrigerant at the worst time.

I'm a certified a/c tech where you located? You also need returns like mentioned earlier, something to actually remove the heat out of your room not just mix cool air in. Also maybe install the thermostat inside the rooms so he AC is being turned on and off by the room temps.

Sorry for the late reply. I installed the Split System but my HVAC buddy doesn't have the vacuum pump or gauge. So he has to borrow it and the dude who has it is scared to let us borrow it. Hella dumb man. I am located in East Bay Area @codayyy

I'm running that Split on a 2 pole 30 amp breaker and the 4,000 watts on a 40 amp.

But I am still stuck with the downstairs problems getting central AC to that room without wasting energy cooling down my kitchen and family room for no reason.

Take standing Ac out of big room and put in small room. Or just exhaust the air into the hallway . I run 1800 watts for veg in a tent with no Ac.. I just suck the air out with a 6 inch inline and spit it into the hallway .

As far as the big room goes.. From what I hear you can buy the pump and gauges on eBay for a reasonable price. If you do the electrical and run the lines... All he has to do is vacuum the lines and add a little more r410a to compensate for the added lines . . Takes no more than an hour .

How many amp breaker did you add when you installed your 2 ton split system. My 3 ton took a 30, does the 2 ton take a 20 or is it still a 30 amp?

Instructions on my Gree 24000btu said 20 to 30 amp breaker. I did install a surge protector at the outdoor 220v cutoff switch and it said 20 amp max... Since I installed the surge protector, my lights dont flicker anymore. Even though it is hooked up outside, it seems to affect my whole garage? I could be wrong

Do you feel comfortable cutting a hole in your house? Hooking up the indoor unit gave me the most problems. When you hook the copper line to the back of the air handler, you will have to put a 90degree bend in the copper without kinking it!

I used nylog on the flare fittings, flare and threads. it leaks more from the flare than the threads. I bought a vacuum pump for $60(craigslist) and an adapter for old R22 gauges(online). R22 gauges are out dated and should find them easy. I asked someone to borrow a pair and they almost gave me a whole basket full of them
