Judge warns redactions in Trump warrant affidavit could render it ‘meaningless’
A federal magistrate judge reviewing whether to release the affidavit that pushed him to approve a warrant to search former President Trump’s home said Monday that while he believes public interest favors releasing the document, redactions could make it “meaningless.”

The order from Judge Bruce Reinhart expands on an order from the bench given Thursday that gave the Justice Department until Thursday to propose redactions it says are necessary to protect its ongoing investigation.

“Particularly given the intense public and historical interest in an unprecedented search of a former president’s residence, the government has not yet shown that these administrative concerns are sufficient to justify sealing,” Reinhart wrote, adding that he rejected keeping the entire affidavit under seal.

While Reinhart previously suggested he would release a redacted version of the affidavit, he warned that approach could shift after reviewing DOJ’s proposed redactions.

“I cannot say at this point that partial redactions will be so extensive that they will result in a meaningless disclosure, but I may ultimately reach that conclusion after hearing further from the government,” he wrote.

DOJ had previously argued that what it deemed necessary redactions “would be so extensive as to render the document devoid of content that would meaningfully enhance the public’s understanding.”

DOJ has until noon Thursday to submit its proposal.
The warrant and other associated documents were released earlier this month after Attorney General Merrick Garland said that “the public’s clear and powerful interest in understanding what occurred under these circumstances weighs heavily in favor of unsealing.”

But the department has struck a different tone when it comes to the affidavit used to justify the warrant, arguing it should remain under seal in its entirety because information it contains lays out a “roadmap” to its ongoing investigation, and “highly sensitive information about witnesses,” and “specific investigative techniques.”

Just imagine how much leverage this gives the DOJ over those Trump aids who were involved or responsible for these documents? They could be looking at serious time in prison.

I probably should have clarified that a gazillion is a fuck ton of times
Not diggin‘ at you, man, and I did get the massive number: but it was meant the same way you’d warn a friend not to piss on that electric fence.

My experience (1967-today) has been that if you ask ‘today’s modern conservatives‘ a question in the form of “Wasn’t it actually [fully-proven fact]?” they will absolutely answer “NO! YOU [insert expletive here]!” and Gish-gallop right over you by hacking up all the ‘reasons’ the facts are a satanic liberal plot to keep them from taking over the country, establishing a new confederation & permanent ruling class, and resurrecting slavery, and arresting ‘people like you’ - just as the founders intended (they might phrase it differently; see Alito’s Roe opinion for details).

They will also frequently add remarks that add up to “you shouldn’t even be *alive*, you alien!” or “Go back to Russia, you commie!”, tho they don’t use that one as much anymore.

Not sure how this connects, exactly, but while typing, it occurred to me that theres no real difference between ‘stochastic terrorism’ and the GOP imperative to fuck up US law and culture as much as possible & blame it on “THEM”…by which they mean anyone who can put 2+2 together & wants to prevent them from doing it and from getting away with trying.

Anyway…hi! Good morning-ish

Jared Kushner said the Mar-a-Lago raid was a mistake by Trump's enemies. He spoke after rampant speculation arose that he may have tipped off the FBI.

  • Jared Kushner was interviewed for the first time since the August 8 Mar-a-Lago raid.
  • He called the raid a "cause for concern" for democracy, blaming Trump's "enemies."
  • Those around Trump are said to suspect a family member — perhaps Kushner — tipped off the FBI.
Jared Kushner spoke about the Mar-a-Lago raid for the first time Sunday after widespread speculation arose that he could have been a mole to the FBI.

Speaking with Mark Levin, Kushner described the FBI's actions as part of a long-standing playbook against former President Donald Trump by his "enemies," saying scrutiny of Trump was a result of him being "a fighter."

The assertion contradicts the Department of Justice's stated reason for carrying out that raid: that Trump wrongly possessed classified documents and may have committed several crimes.

Kushner said Trump "drives his enemies so crazy, they always overpursue him and make mistakes in trying to get him, and that's basically what happened here."

He added: "But what's happening now, it's the same thing, being done by the same people in the same way. They're leaking to the same sources. They're manufacturing fabulous claims that get debunked shortly thereafter."

In the interview, Kushner did not object to Levin calling the raid a "despicable attack."

Kushner said: "It is giving a lot of people who want to believe in the fairness of the judicial system and our democracy a lot of pause and concern."

The Biden administration says it was unaware of the raid, which was personally approved by the attorney general, before it happened. Its warrant was signed off by a judge.

Levin focused on lavishing praise on the former president and admonishing the feds for searching his home.

He did not ask Kushner whether there had been a Trumpworld informant who tipped off the FBI about what to look for and where.

"Republican" is in the Constitution and "democracy" is not.

Let's see how you fare:
So it’s all about branding and contagion for you, huh? Word games are fun, but THAT one never does well at parties

It gives you nothing to stand on - but then, you’re still falling so why worry about the landing, amirite?
