It's all in who you know: original MTF genetics are still alive. ;-)
(*the first two pics are from my current grow of three MTF plants, The middle pic is from a previous MTF grow right before harvest <missed the top of the kola in the pic> the next two pics are the trimmed results <60 days vegging under 600w mH and 91 days of flowering under 600w HPS>, and the last pic is a close up view).
I was raised on the wrong side of the tracks in Spenard and have smoked pounds of MTF back in the 70's & 80's.
It is as good as you've read.
*Grows tall, has gnarly, wicked looking leaves (especially in the kola), and has a serious creeper high that grabs you by the boo-boo. Eats light and shits thunder.
Peace!

$11, fuck!
I quit smoking cigs 5 years ago when it was $6 a pack back in Alaska.
Sheesh, $110 for a carton...
The cost of a few cartons would buy a nice little supply of herb. ;-)

Found a pic of one of my MTF kolas just before harvest time.
Flowered for 91 days, and it was still throwing out new growth, but I was worried about bud rot so I got chicken and chopped it.
Peace!

I spent 39 of my 44 years in Alaska (born in Ketchikan, and am half T'lingit).
The source of my MTF is a true and original source (and that's all I'm going to say on that subject).
It does exist, just as it existed way back in the day.
There is always bud from the Valley and, true enough, it didn't (and still doesn't) mean that it is MTF.
But, if you knew the right people, then you could trust your life on the fact that if they said if was MTF, it was indeed MTF.
Just because some major grow ops got busted, doesn't mean the genetics were extinguished. (grow ops are like cockroaches: for every big grow op that was busted, 100 small ones were left untouched)
It just became harder to find the real thing.
Now days, it's been crossed with many other strains by seed banks & breeders to get similar traits from the old days, as well as some of them have tried tracing it's origins to get a reasonable facsimile of the original, but I wouldn't trust a seed bank to be truthful about it being true MTF.
But there are still many of us out here who keep it (the original) alive and well. ;-)

the Doctor also has the best bubba kush around and that endless skys kicks big ass
id have not tried all but id say all his gear would be kickin ass
i've grown out both, and they were/are kick ass! although, i grew out the non-femmed bubba (which he doesn't carry anymore) not the femmed. but it was awesome! and if the doc says he has mtf, then he has it! i been dealing with him for years, and he's a stand-up guy. he makes plenty of money, and doesn't need to lie about strains to make more... he's a top breeder! here's an example of what i think about his breeding abilities. do you think subcool is a quality breeder??? sub could learn from the doc, nuff said....

So can anyone comment on whether the Matanuska Thundefuck that Drgreenthumb carries is the same MTF genetics?

Hey DoobieBrother or anyone else with a lot of knowledge of the real MTF, when do they normally harvest MTF in the Matanuska Valley in Alaska? Can someone also comment about what was stated about leaving them outside to harvest after the first frost.

I am looking for an early harvesting strain that is more of a sativa then an indica and if the strain Drgreenthumb has is truly MTF then I can't see how it can't be done by Oct 1st when the chances of the first frost in the Matanuska valley is by Oct. 7th is 90%.

What about what this site says; http://cannabis.wikia.com/wiki/Matanuska_Thunderfuck

hello ,
and yes i am the real TAZZ11 ...

the strain base is called Matanuska tundra by the grimm borthers . it got the nick name alaskcain thunderfuck in the late 80's .. i first smoke the strain in 1979 in wastington before it was a IBL , the strain base was sold about 9 months before it was stated lost .. the strain is still out there ..grimm sold the strain base to a smaller seed bank i forget wich one . the name started with a M , it will come to me sooner or later . i have grown over 13,000 strain bases,so i dont keep track any more ...

the strain base is not as stable as some . there are two ways to grow the strain base . you can confert it inside and grow it as it was grown before it was a IBL or you can take your chances out side ..but remember the strain was grown in matanuska soil and well not have the same resaults ..if you do find the strain base .. grow it in side get it stable and then deside from there ..

i smoke the strain base when it was in the early years .. it was a closet strain small hard buds with a knock out high sweet pine falvor .. kick a** high . it did not feel like it was getting you stone then you were to stoned . the high was over the top for a few hours and left you a basket case for the rest of the day if you started with 1/2 a joint . i never finished that joint ...i was so high i left it laying on the end table...

the real strain rates a 9.8 and i have only seen 3 prefect 10's in my life time ..most strains never rate higher then 6 or 7 .

you will out right know it if you find it ...

History lesson time.

The Thunderfuck name stems way back to the 80's in BC. Starting on Texada Island. This was the first of the Thunderfuck genetics known as Texada(TEX-AID-A) Thunderfuck.

If their offering beans from those genetics I'd suggest grabbing as many as you can as it was one of the most memorable smokes I've personally ever smoked.

yes the grimms did sell the strain base to sagamarthaseeds in the later 1990"s before the crack down ...i thaught they sold it to a company that started with a M but when i seen simon's reply i rememberd who they sold the strain to and it was sagamartha seeds ..

and i dont know what some of you are smokeing .. but matanska tundra is MTF you can hybrid anything , it will not change what it was to start with . they have become very diffrent strain base that is true but . they came from a common sorce ...

,the strain was being hybrided in seattle washington in 1979 as a indoor hybrid being devolpoed to grow in Alaska and yes i dont remember wich one of the grimms it was i think he called my self Garry . he was a great breeder and was hybriding the strain is a closet grow set up he was going to head north into vanouver BC when i met him . i was on leave from the Navy and only spent the day looking for weed and found him went to his apt and saw his grow and smoked with him and we talk till it no longer made any sence at all ...lol

so yes this strain could have very well been in Vacouver BC or other parts of BC in the early 80's and you are correct , i know for a fact he called the strain base mantuska tundra and then said it was called Alaskcain thunderFuck so it was already named by him in 1979 ..he also said he had been down to washington 2 or 3 times lookking for more hybrid base strains so the strain was not complete when i met him ..

he has about 9 plants in his grow but he knew how to grow with the best of them .. and i would know that firsthand ,

My knowledge is from personal experience.

We(mother, father and wee little me) were taking a boat ride starting in Nanaimo and decided to go visiting some of the islands. We ended up on Texada Island and my parents met this guy which I now know as a grower. this was back in 83 so I was a little tyke. I played in his pot field and my parents scored what I overheard as Texada Thunderfuck. When we got home I waited untill they wen't out and took some herb from them. I stashed it in a GIJoe and forgot about it. 2 years later when I started smoking reefer I remembered about the TT and looked in my GIJoe and it was still there. I smoked it and flew for hours and hours and hours. I never forgot that thunderfuck. I wonder if we were at the guys house or if he still lives there.

Some bush Alaskans have seed stocks amazingly old...as you can imagine we are accustom to storing, preserving, and carrying on that which we need, want, and love.

Even breeders and distributors have friends... Friends share. :leaf:

Interesting history lessons indeed. On THC Farmer I read a post from a guy who claims to also know firsthand the true story about MTF. Giving a lengthy and impressive seemingly thorough account of having been born and raised in the Matanuska Valley since the mid 50's and differing considerably from the certain accounts portrayed here. My feeling is it really came from Texada Island it wouldn't be called MTF. Texada Timewarp comes from there, and MTF comes from the Matanuska Valley. Because the strain has no known lineage origins speculation runs rampant and many claim to know the true history behind it. It is interesting how the strain is unique to itself and still remains alone in a world of hybrids.
