for the canopy10- 100% of the CAD work, water jetting, powder coating etc etc. was done by me.
I dropped my $42 per month GOLD's gym membership and signed up for an $88/month membership at a local "Maker's Space" they have all the tools, gear and classes to take a noob to a pro. thats were I do all this work. My private garage/shop is quite pathetic and filled with harbor freight tools that simply won't die, lol.

as for the price of the light -to build it- I have somewhere in the neighborhood of $1300 in it. but ill detail every bolt on the full video.

THAT IS AMAZING!!!! This spread and spectrum deserves a showcase design like this. One of a kind man. I too have a membership at harbor freight haha. Investing in a drill press as we speak. (No more tapping at an angle for this guy)

hey man, i think you will appreciate this. I used the same brand taps that you showcase in your videos, dewalt or the Irwin brand. Ive broke a bunch as I make the turn towards tapping almost a thousand holes.

I recently switched over to a spiral drill tap. see here on Amazon

HOLY FREAKING HELL- this thing literally changed my life, like discovering jesus or boobs for the first time.
this simple little thing made tapping (which I hate) into a breeze. I use the same magic tap as you, but i run my spiral tap in my cordless drill with the clutch turned down in case it binds up.
game changer for the diy enthusiast.

60w with a blend of spectra is going to be easier to achieve with some discrete diodes than COBs. I would probably mimic the spectrum that greengene has linked in various places:

if you listen back to our tech talk yesterday, GG describes which diodes offer the best performance in each color class.
A meanwell LRS DC power supply and some Meanwell LDD dc-dc drivers will offer you an affordable and controlable way to drive them, assuming you dont mind investing $40 on a pwm controller.

Alternatively: a single cob build would work as well. a 72v cree cxb3590 3500k run at 700-800ma in series connection with:
(1) 450nm mono
(1) 620-630nm mono
(2) 660nm monos
would allow you to have a simple build on one driver.
If you use the pressure sensitive graphite TIM & the solderless top bin stars from Cutter Electronics, you could put this together in an hour+
* how many volts would you need for the driver...72 + 3 + 2.5 + 2.5 + 2.5= 82.5v @ 7-800ma should get it done.

Here's the plan; 4xcxb3070's BB bin, best I can find (or maybe 4xvero29 - don't all shout at me!)

Just need a bit of driver advice. Been perusing them on digikey and mouser and, for how I'd like to run them and to future proof them for any additions I want to make, the meanwell drivers you all recommend aren't the best fit. Obviously you lot like these for a reason so it feels a bit sacreligious taking another option. The brands that have drivers to fit my needs, are:

Recom Power
Thomas Research Laboratories
Phihong USA
Excelsys Technologies

Anyone have any input on any of these manufacturers?

Recom is solid. Inventronics is pretty good too.
I personally have had bad experience with Thomas Research. 6 failures in less than 2 years w. this model. it may not be indicative of the entire line, but still fuck them.

@Growmau5, I saw your video. i looked real close at that canopy light. I saw a typhon controller in it? You can download my code into an arduino uno and add the lcd shield, rtc and have six channels instead of four. You can also remote mount the Controller and sit back and turn the dials at your desk. That is what I do now. That light is kick ass for a 4x4 canopy. with the right controller you can control individual drivers and each color timed independent of each other. I currently drive the blues and the reds on separate channels and separate spaces. You can also control more than one driver with the same PWM signal. One PWM signal can drive multiple channels of lights or LDD drivers. peace

I see a 48v power supply four channels of RB, DR, maybe some orange perhaps and some Far Red. Different colors different times with two led Mean well drivers with dimmers. Peace lots of nice millwork on those covers with that 8020 rails and covers.
