How much do you attribute your taking hot soapy showers with other boys after your football practices with your aversion to the female form ? I don't mind that you like guys, but lots of former male athletes have come out the closet. Do you have something you want to share with us? Does your wife know?

The irony is this situation was supposed to be a "beneficial" goal of capitalism. We'd all be able to live George Jetson lives, needing little more for survival than pushing buttons for a grueling 4 hours a day, 3 days a week.
However, what are the other variables in this system of equations? The state of other economies plays a role.
Western economies had the time to paint themselves into corners, but the emerging economies (EE) have yet to reach equivalent plateaus, and by this mechanism they keep the flows imbalanced (e.g. China), sustaining the orthodoxy. Yet, they are not going to experience the leisurely pace of obsolescence we've entertained. Their moves toward the "Crisis of Capitalism" will be swift, as we are already seeing in their attempt to manage the equity market. Compounding the issue is the population density. As a Hua-yi colleague of mine noted, anything you can conceive of happening in a Western economy becomes augmented by an order of magnitude in China. That goes for success and failures. Changes are exponentially rapid as a relative consequence.
When the EEs reach their plateaus respectively, the globe will need to address a critical level of instability in capitalist affairs. Depending on the degree of enlightenment amongst the citizenry and power-brokers, this will manifest in either War or Philosophy. Until then, there is only the grind into perpetual drudgery or superfluous servitude for the median and those within arm's reach. To which, I try to spend time on considering the philosophical shift of paradigms, questioning how the transition itself can occur with the least pain. How can developed civilization move from capitalism into a more broadly beneficial level of social organization with equanimity when faced by a playing field that looks like the following?
The Haves and Have Yachts are not going to let their positions slip without great intellectual struggle, at the least. Stasis is comfortable as far as they are concerned.

But then again the race program promised this would be a rewarding career with upward growth. I have absolutely no problem finding a job. But here in Wisconsin the jobs get worse and worse every year

Have you ever read anything by Jeremy Rifkin? His books deal with a lot of the same subject matter. I read his book The End of Work about fifteen years ago in college. It dealt with a lot of the stuff that is going on today. He has a new one out called the Zero Marginal Cost Society. I haven't read it yet. It is somewhere between amazon and my house.
