Michigan firearms season

Finally shot a doe this morning with my new muzzleloader. She stepped in front of the tower blind we were hunting out of at like 15 yards away. Took a few seconds to find her in my scope she was so close. Crosshairs were directly behind her shoulder blades when I squeezed the trigger, as the smoke was clearing I saw her twisting her front end away from me and running into the patch of woods she came from.We gave it 15 minutes and then climbed down, found the wad right where she was standing but no blood or hair. Searched the woods she ran into and found not a trace of a shot. I could tell which path they ran in the woods because of the fresh tracks but thats all for about 30 or so yards and there she lay at the other edge of the woods with some blood on a few trees and a chunk of lung on the ground. Was a perfect double lung shot and a nice big beautiful doe. I am thankful for the meals she will provide me and my family. Time for another.

Sorry last 2 years went empty handed and sure is nowhere the deer we had almost a decade ago. Last time I seen anything in my county worth shooting, someone hit the damn thing with a car. It had to come crawling in my direction. What luck, watching a road kill thrash around. I wasted a good carbon arrow and a rage chisel 100gr that day to end the noise and suffering. wasted the evening to dragging it away from my stand with the atv. In retrospect I should have left it lay, and used it as coyote bait. Their numbers seem high. Wonder if they taste good in noodles or rice?

I will have to stop at a Asian restaurant and ask.
i think the real issues is all the pussies i see putting feed plots in their back yard so they dont have to do the real work hunting.
everyone i know has gotten a nice buck. lots of big 8's, brother in law got a 6 with half the rack being broken sometime throughout the year. would have been a really nice 10.

and while he didnt get it in michigan my dad got his first elk this year

Nice Doe man grats. Those close shots like that with a 150gr load have such super high velocity that they blow right through the deer and really lack the knockdown power. (Assuming you used 150 in your new rig). But even 100 at 15yds is gonna do that lol.

I even stray away from the high velocity sabots for shotguns. They really make a difference in dropping one in it's tracks or having them run like hell.

Thanks stump, I was shooting 100 grains and like you said at 15 yards thats plenty, makes sense the way you explain it, not having the knockdown power at such close range or with higher velocities. I hadn't thought about it like that. Thanks man, good luck on your hunting season.

so if I work on my property year round planting pruning, mowing, building stands that 12 year old gurls or or 70 year old men can be safe and successful in I'm a pussy???

My daughter went with me for the first time on the 16th. We checked the wind, I showed her tracks of several animals, and we took our time walked to where we were going to sit. Got settled in, 6 does started down the trail. The closest got to about 15 yards from us when I took the first shot at the 7 pt trailing them in full sneak. He stumbled, broke down the trail at a run left to right, and I got him through the heart with the second shot at 25 yards. Made it far enough to fall down the draw and make us haul him up the hill.

Only problem is now she thinks you go out and get a nice buck in 45 min on a 55 degree day and that's all there is to it...

haha nice. ya i went out for a week straight looking for deer and didnt see anything except for 1 fucking day i went HIKING and only brought a 410 and ended up seeing a huge buck and a huge doe together.

about a week later they were EVERYWHERE and still are here in my part of KY. i can literally walk out of my house here in the mornings and pick one off the front lawn if i wanted to lol. good luck with your hunting up there guys.

not really sure if you understood correct. what I am talking about is buying tripod feeders and putting them 50 feet off your back porch.
i see it far too often around here. if that is the case for what you do as well, then yes, you fit the category.

never used a food plot to hunt in my life. same goes for every member of my family. me and my sister started young, and didnt need plots to do it.
IMO using plots is no better than shooting a fish in a barrel.

While not 70, 52 isnt young. My father, doing it right and still getting it done.

If I had a house in the woods or country I'd have a feeder and I would shoot deer off it too, but only as a last resort to put meat in the freezer if I didn't get one out hunting normally and I would only shoot a doe.
