Motion Sensors, Rippers, False Alarms, Dogs, Wind, How To?
Been having huge problems with my motion sensors with my dog and wind. If I place them high up my dogs will set them off. Spent hours and hours trying to get them just right with no luck. So I moved then right to my plants about head high to avoid the dogs. Well it did not pick up my dogs but the plants blowing in the wind did. So my fix was to take this box and mount the sensor inside. This box will block out all the stems blowing in front of the sensor. It also let my dogs walk under it with zero problems. So for the last few days I have had zero false alarms and I like that. The sensor is pointed and the base of some heavy arborvida bushes that do not move much. I can tap the box pretty hard and not set it off. So it can blow around in the wind some. I put the black tape over the red flashing light. The sensor model I have only beeps once when set off. 30 sec. later the alarm goes off. During the 30 sec. a red light flashes. I did not like that so I taped it up.
I bet your wondering about the camera? That is just a old broken camera set there to trip the ripper out. Or if by chance the ripper knows me he will be thinking real hard what that shit was. I have a USB cable hooked to the camera and tied to the a stake inside my plants. My thinking is the ripper will hear the beep and stop in his tracks if not already running. If he reaches into the box he will grab the camera and see the is a cord to it. If he tries to rip the sensor out of the box he will rock the shit out a cow bell tied to the back of the box. My Jack Russel will hear that every time. By the time all this happens the 30 sec. is up and the alrams sounds.
This just a prototype to how it works. So far it has been 3 days with zero false alarms.
Whats funny is with this set up you would walk around the corner and the rippers face would rght smack in front of the box. I know it would trip me out if I was a ripper. I have to have mine up high like this for I have dogs. If I had no dogs they would be lower and harder to see.
I was planing on adding a large peace of plywood if the arborvidas sent the sensor off while blowing in the wind. With plywood I would think you would have 100% false alarm set up until a moth came along.
I was even thinking about adding some screen over the front if I make this box out of wood. it would keep the ripper from easy grabing and he would set the cow bell off for sure. I have 3 f these in my plants and no problems so far. With 4 dogs thats pretty goood. Also past a 30 mph wind test today.
Just wanted to pass on what I learned. Stay one step ahead of the rippers. I can now sleep better in my tent with no false alarms.

take the cover off the motion detector... on the opaque plastic lens over the infrared eye, cut 4 or 5 1/8" thick strips of white electrical or cloth first aid tape and space them vertically with even spaces across the opaque lens, so your making 'jail bars' . ditch the box.. its too easy to spot. masking the infrared lens will reduce the false tripping. you may have to play around with the spacing of the tape/number of strips to get the sensitivity you want...

ps-

you can cut the led of the board on the motion detector too.. there also maybe a jumper on the circuit board you can use to shut the led off bongsmilie

I spent weeks messing with these sensors. About thru them over the fence a few times. Thanks for you advice but this is working for me with zero false alarms. This weekend I will make much smaller boxes out of wood.

Your post does have merrit if you did not have a solid object to point your sensor at.

Again this set up is just a proto type. I really do not care if they can be seen or not. They are placed behind my plants where there is a 4 foor walkway between my plants and the a arborvida tree line. This is for sure where a ripper will go if he goes into my backyard.

It is dark and you will not see it until it is to late. The wood boxes will even be smaller.

the placement is always the key to it... cover the approaches, even the unlikely ones. another dirty trick is putting the motion low to the ground, where they dont expect to be looking for it ;)

ps- infrared cams w/ no flash= even more devious. remember a cam can always be taken off site with the loot.

If they want them they'll get them.

Hello I have friend with an outdoor grow and indoor grow, last weekend! right on through to Monday they jumped the fence back wall, on a main street that is busy all the time, moswt likely someone just walking by smelled them and had a looksee. all but one was taken, Now I am not sure how many people he told or knew about the grow, but fisrt of all you do not tell anyone, even your best friend can go roag on you, second out door grows are the hardest to secure, if they want your plants they WILL get them no matter how much security you have, you can try to slow them! you can try to make it undisirable for them to come in your yard but comes down to it if they want them they will take them.

My outdoor grow! I toke my homes security alarm motion sensor and placed on the fence it goes on at 10pm, someone gets in the yard the alarm goes off, flood lights with wireless sensors placed around the yard and in the wireless receiver in the house, one in the living room and 1 in bedroom, lights go off!! the room lights up with a 150 watt bulbe that will wake you up, and if not a secound alarm placed in hallway near bedrooms that will buzz or beep.

Back to my friend he had all but 1 taken from the backyard, to bad! the surveillance system he has I sold him and installed, but he wanted cheep he bought cheep, I told him of the pitfalls of a cheep surveillance system he did not listen to me, next I one I will back out of, if they can't do it right.

I do this professionally and I just can't understand why people don't believe you when you tell them, as I told him you will see them come over the fence but there face is a whole other problem, to far away to in zoom in on, because be bought cheep,And wouldn't agree on where the cameras placemtn, he had the cameras placed on the house eve's which is way to far away from the subjects (plants) who cares how they got in? they got in! the system could've given him a good view of the people who riped him off but because of where the cameras where!! not happening,, the police said the system was junk, they are right! to a point! that"s because he didn't take my advise, because he know's it all! system choices he had, and placement of the cameras, the end result he got riped and had nothing to show for the investment no video proof.

If you have a whole lot of money inversted or making a whole lot of money off of it, why wouldn't you invest in the right stuff????what the fucks up with that shit. It's like buying a big plasma for 3k or 4k and paying $50 on cheep crappy mount a and $50 to hang it you deserve to have it fall off the wall.

A video surveillance system is a deterrent at best, it's not going to go! Hay you! stop! I see you!and I am going recroding you. and if someone steels your cameras your an ass outside cam's should always be above 10' not with in anyone's reach and the cable in metal conduit.

No the best you can hope for is that some dumshit see's the cameras and says fuck it to much of a hassel, with video and a clear view of there face in California you can go to jail for riping off marjiuana plants, and depending on the amount of the plants a person cloud go to jail for a very long time.

Second subject: GROW ROOM putting up security doors on all the doors of your home is not going to stop them and sends a signal to the police, unless you want to live in a jail you have to bar the windows to, the point is they can get in anyhow, no what you need to do is turn your grow room into a vault, then you only have to worry about 1 room, there is one way in, the security door, because the window on the room are barred or have been secured in some way, last of all DON"T TELL ANYONE the more how know the greater the chances of gerttingg riped off.

Security is security and Thieves are Thieves they are the low lifes of the planet, the slackers, the people who couldn't work a real job for a moment, there in and out of jail on a regular schedule, to say it's there second home is an understatment some get busted just visit there friends in jail something like a vacation.

I sleep within 5 feet of all my plants with 4 dogs. If they want these plants they will have to rob me at gun point for them.

You say I am cheap right? Well I say you are lazy. Why would you even be sleeping in your bedroom if you have 20lbs growing in your backyard?

With my cheap 20$ sensors I have in a way made laser beams that will not be set off by my dogs. If took your camera motion sensor advice above I would be up all night every night checking my camera to see it was my dogs that set it all off.

I am sure your high $ system works for you. But it would not work for me.

My camera is being there in person 24/7. My cheap motion sensor is now 100% high alert if it goes off. I like that.

You are right about one thing though. If they want them they will get them.

Was your friend sleeping next to his plants?

Do you have dogs, bushes and wind?

I do not really mean it when I called you lazy. I was just saying :)

Ps. Plus I am so broke I cannot even buy a candy bar.
