Mushrooms?

Yeah it can take a while. It mostly depends upon what sub you used, temperature, genetics, did you use a syringe, print, or culture, and if you used the right amount of moisture. Usually it's temps and sub. I had pf jars take longer. Popcorn is faster. Even in lower temps.

Alright thank you, I used a syringe, I used the right amount of moisture I'd like to believe, and the temp is usually a steady 75-80 F substrate is brf, and verm. I really wasn't expecting it to take this long after reading the tek saying it takes 2-4 weeks at most...that's an exaggeration for sure.

What's every ones opinion on adding some gypsum in a substrate?
Gypsum is a mild ph buffer which is rarely needed except in the case of acidic medium like spagnum peat. Gypsum however is an important moisture controle method. If you think your substrate is too moist, Gypsum will bind the water up without keeping it from the mycelium when it is needed. Much of he gypsum sold commercialy is now pelletized or granulated - this stuff doesn't work very well at all for either buffering or moisture control amendment.

BUt addition of moderate amounts of gypsum in any form will not hurt your grow.

Thanks Canndo, I was thinking of starting some "grow bags," or something of the sorts with a mix of Brown Rice Flour, Vermiculite, Gypsum, and Multi Grain Flour.

The jars are coming along great now. I can't believe how far they've gotten in the last 2 days.
There was 1 dud, so I have 4 jars, but they are all about 90% colonized (small areas on the sides aren't covered in mycelium yet, and the bottom of jars have yet to show mycelium except small specks.
Except one of them that's at I'd say roughly 85% which still isn't bad in my opinion for it being my first shot at growing fungi, and everything's been going perfect. I'm getting anxious waiting with them being this close to being able to birth them. Oh the waiting game.. ;)

I think I have it all down now, and am good to go by myself from here on. Just one last question I have as I've looked around have found no answer.
Do you have to "dunk, and roll" or can I just put them in a fruiting chamber straight out of the jars?
Also should I wait a few days after what I believe is full colonization to ensure consolidation?

i dont know i rolled mine before fruiting, and i did give them a few days to as you put consolidate, but i did not dunk till after the first flush. you got the hard part done pretty much, getting substrate to germ and germ correctly is the hard part from here yeah you sound like you could go at it alone from here, the PF tek is pretty straight forward. you dont have "roll" before fruiting at all either from what i know.

been awhile since ive looked a PF tek been trying to relearn everything with grain recently.

I don't use exotic PF type mixtures - too much work for no advantage whatsoever. but I think you have already gone down that road.

One of the reasons I have such a dim view of PF tek and it's cousins is that you have to play that "waiting game".

And no, you don't have to use that dunk and roll thing. That is the problem with PF, you are performing artificial methods with a natural organism, there is nothing in nature that regularly "rolls" the mycelium - although the "dunking" part is mimicking rainwater.

Well I finally noticed pins the other night on Halloween.
They were growing off the bottom of the PF Cake though where the vermiculite part is, is this normal? I've heard it is, but not sure. (Nothing seems to be going wrong.)

All in all it's pretty exciting seeing your baby fruits grow after all your "hard" labor. :)
This is probably another shot in the dark question, but how long from a pin to a mature mushroom?
I've seen anywhere from 3 days up to a week at the most would this be relevant. Here are some pictures. asdryuio;ljhfd 001.jpgasdryuio;ljhfd 003.jpgasdryuio;ljhfd 006.jpgasdryuio;ljhfd 007.jpg
