IMO if I was going to do that I would ditch the M420 frame and go with a new frame build and just add the monoi's in blue and red. But honestly the 5K in veg is doing so well as is I see no need to change a thing.

Also from my previous conversation with Vic the SE-450 cannot take the 3590's due to the size of the hole?

So you would be looking for what 5K 3070's for there?
 
Not sure, I was making a super veg light but been waiting on parts from the machine shop for so long I may just buy something.
 
It's for a 4x6 and made to expand as the plants get larger. I mounted the 4 Samsung hard strips, low powered 80w for germinating seeds. Then 4 center cobs in an x pattern 6500k and 5000konce they hit a few inches tall. As I need to push the pots out I added another 4 cobs on the outer edges in 6500k. 4 drivers total, 8 cobs driven at 25w each and the 80w of strips. IMG_4090.JPG
Was going to mount another driver in there as well. The brackets to span the 80/20 have taken 2 months and still no due date. That's just about 300$ and another few hundred to finish it off. Diy the expensive way lol.
 
If you want my honest opinion, you already have on hand the perfect setup to veg here lol........

Dust off the (2) CMH lights bro with the veg bulbs those lights rock especially for veg with that 4200K Phillips Bulb.

Boom you don't have to buy shit and can keep waiting on your parts! Win/Win!

I tried them that's why they are collecting dust. It doesn't make a bit of sense how 168w of leds was better than 315w of cmh. I also want them to be brought up on cobs, yeah it's crazy but I will add in some 6500k to flower temporarily so there is no hard transition.

I really don't get how those CMH lights did not work for you, especially just to veg........... My old 315 is one of my favorite lights I have used aside from my T5 Quantum Bad Boy 8 Bulb.

But shit every grow is different man that's what I keep learning over and over the loinger I do this and some people just won't get. Just because something work's in garden A doesn't mean it will in garden B.

I will be curious to see what you end up going with. :bigjoint:

I fully agree, I also think the Amare grows have been the motivation for others to start incorporating them into their own diy's. Just at a different level or configuration obviously. I'm sure the r&d is far less extreme then what's already in our lights.
 
That's chill, I'll just wait for the data from a reliable instrument to come to a conclusion on the value of a luminaire rather than taking the word of an obvious shill and his anti-science grow frat.

When you have reliable data you can come to your own conclusions and you dont have to wait 3 mos for a suspect "trial" to produce usless results. We dont grow the same strains in the same media so your results arent going to be my results. If I have verified data on every lamp I have an idea how it is going to perform in my room with my plants.

Your plants look great under your lights, no arguing there, but that doesnt mean I (and others) cant do a lot better spending a lot less.

So, think about this, CoBs by themselves. are like a high performance normally aspirated engines. The diodes that Amare surrounds each CoB with is like a turbo or supercharger. Fact is turbos and supercharged engines outperform normally aspirated engines

think about this, by adding mono LEDs your augmenting the SPD. its about the same difference between an 80 cri to 90 cri 3000k spectrum. the white light already emits all the colors your supplementing except IR or UV if your using those models my point is your just messing with the relative peaks in the spectrum that could have been done by buying cobs closer to the desired output in the first place

Not really, The PAR levels are not that much better than COBs by themselves... For 50W you get more out of COBS, If you want more red then go for 2700K thats enough.

I get it and appreciate your comment. Don't you think that the whole lighting thing is a little crazy though? Is a few % efficiency with monos vs all cobs going to kill the light bill? Or do most people think they are worth it and that's the reason more and more people are adding them? There are options and options makes for a huge overhead but also better for the customers. The guys who pay and arm and leg per kWh probably want to save the 3bucks a month and skip the 100w cob version. But I do see many others boosting wattages as well. I'm all for the supplemental leds and If I were to buy a plain cob light I would surely add in bars and uv making my now 3 piece light more of a hassle and much more expensive. Also if your slamming 1-1.5 lbs a light is the cost really all that important when competitors are +-100 for the same wattage.

Something I thought about today and all the conflicts here Ext Ext... lighting is one thing but lighting and the specs and all the bs associated with it as a hobby is another thing. That's it. Guys that devote their free time to studying specs and really not growing will never be satisfied. Maybe that's why the growers and hobbyists are always butting heads.

It's a veg and flower light. Obviously you can change temps. It will veg better than 3500k's and flower better than 3500k's. That's what happens when you supplement cobs just like everyone else is doing nowadays

Your saying more red and uv is bad in flower? Or more blue and it is bad in veg? Ideally yes 2 separate lights. A 6500k and a 2700k, then maybe even a transition light so you don't shock your plants. Then a uv somewhere in there too. Sounds kinda foolish to me.
