My Girl Grown With Assorted CFLs

So this is my first plant, and being a young'n with no real job and at the time of start up a suspended allowance, i figured i'd use CFLs. I got 5 26 watt bulbs, and gathered a few from my dad's house to add in the mix after 2 of the initial bulbs broke. i also have acquired a shit ton of other bulbs through questionable practices which i'm not proud of and i'm sure a lot of people are baffled about why their outisde lights are missing. but i'm planning on doing a scrog after i'm done with this grow so until i can get a conversion bulb for the MV ballast i have, i will use the 35 cfl bulbs i have for the scrog. in other words, it's all for the greater good (of me lol). :bigjoint:

i germed 15 seeds, one survived lol. Now she is all grown up and about 2-3 weeks into flowering.

the branches at the bottom are weird. they are pretty big, about a foot and a half long or so and the nodes on the end of the branches have gotten pistils first. the main stem at the bottom is still void of pistils, but in due time i am confident that they will come.

so without further ado, here is my planit in it's growbox which is in my crawlspace after it became too hot in my attic.

I know it is a bit droopy in the pics, but i hadn't watered it in a few days, but no need to worry, i poured in a liter of water to give it what it needed.

It's all organic btw, i used compost from my compost bin in my back yard, no need for nutes in this grow. lol.

one thing that has worried me is that in a few places the pistils look like they are being burnt at the end... i highly doubt this would be from heat since i'm using cfls, and it's not being burnt from over-nuting, so does anyone know what this could be a result of?

thanks,
drummerforpeace.

i think u need more lights or put them closer,(how many lights and whats ur watts and # of k) and if u have a fan u can put the light inches from the plants. the heat can build up if shes sealed up. looks real nice, i have the same problem of the fan leaves curling and under growth lime green color(i think i need more lights). u should take some clones of that girl. btw u should get some jamaican bat guano(7$ a bag) its low in (N) an high in phosphorus that what u need for flowering. she might be alittle hungery for that. good luck http://www.wormsway.com/detail.aspx?t=prod&sku=JBG400&AC=1

take a look an my journal https://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/219626-first-grow-mothers-cloning.html

You probably have all cool spectrum 6500k lights and in flower you need mostly 2700k warm light. Your neighbors probably don't have them on their porches, but that's what you need in there.

Trim out the bottom to get air circulating underneath. And get a fan to act as an intake blowing right where you trimmed. The problem looks like lack of ventilation and they are getting a bit warm. But if you do that she will straighten right up and don't worry about the pistils when it cools down and she gets the air she needs she will be fine. :leaf: Happy Growing!!

Thanks for the responses everyone, i didn't know that i actually got any, then i checked back, and.... yeah!

Weeeell,
I moved the lights closer, did the good ol "put your hand in front of the plant" test to see if it would be safe to have them that close. It was all legit, and so hopefully it will kick into high gear.

as for the comment about the spectrum, actually it is quite the contrary. i have mostly warm white bulbs with 3 cool whites mixed in. i dropped 2 bulbs that were in the lamp that you can see is laying horizontal across the box because that lamp was hella old and touching the shaft electrocuted me. i had been electrocuted enough when i was running an extension cord through the floor in my room down to the crawlspace (i had to cut off the female end of the cord and reattach it in my crawlspace), and so i just said fuck it. So now i'm working with 8 lights, 5 of them are 26 watts and the cool white bulbs are 13 watts, so all in all i have.......169 watts running. that's gonna be around 12, 000 lumens which i think is pretty sufficient for one plant.

i'll post a pic tomorrow of the light set up now since i'm at my dad's (my mom is in ireland for another week now) and my plant is at my mom's. some of the leaves have been yellowing at the bottom, so i think i might do what Inkslinger said and trim off a few fan leaves and i'm also going to reposition my fan so it is right in the doorway of my box to get some fresh(er) air circulating and see if that helps her a bit.

i'll update once a week probably, up until harvest.

and then, (drumroll) i'm going to start a perpetual operation with my friend where i'm going to put 5 - 10 clones a week into my box and keep the mothers at my friend's house. and no, i'm not going to do that with cfls, i'm planning on either getting a 400 watt HPS from HTG, or if all goes well, a 1000 watt ballast off craigslist for 40 bucks and then a 1000 watt bulb from somewhere online (i called home depot today and the guy i talked to was like "damn that's a big bulb. we only go up to 450". i lol'd). and i would have to excavate a bit further down inside my box to have the clones be far enough away from the light that they don't get singed, but it's all for the greater good. (i feel like i'm one of those crazy people from the movie Hot Fuzz. "we killed her because she had an annoying laugh. it's all for the greater good." LOL!

looks like its too hot in there. tie that bitch down l.s.t. then move your lights much closer and up the ventilation get a strong fan and a few more cfls and you will be decent

it's definitely not too hot. it never gets above 80. it's just that i hadn't watered in a few days when i took those pics, so the leaves were curling a bit... like i said, i'm going to reposition the fan real soon, and i already moved the lights closer, so i'm just going to kick back and relax and let time take it's course.

Absolutely do not trim out the bottom. Never cut off a fan leaf. The plant needs them or they wouldn't be there.

take no offence to this but your set-up looks like a fire hazard...Cfls are fire hazardous them self, I wouldn't add to the fact is all i'm saying. and i bet if u clean it up in there and paint the walls white you plants will do a lot better. i would get a box fan and put it right there. that would get u up to were u need to be on the ventilation part. after that u should be able to put some more bulbs in there with the painted walls u would be all set.

besides all that your plant look good...just clean up and organize your space a bit. good luck.

CFLs are a fire hazard? How so?

I do agree that getting electrocuted by your extension cord and lamp probably aren't an indication of the safest setup.

I've never heard CFLs described as a fire hazard, though.

haha o wow. that was a funny ass link. lol and to think this character really beleives CFLs are the cause of burning houses and kids dying everywhere. lol. i use CFLs and have never had a fire hazard or issues with them overheating.

stupid kids.. don't grown in your parents house.. don't hide a whole bunch of cfls and have them where you can't get to them easily and also, this plant looks like crap.

grow up.. stop stealing from your neighbors.. i would beat your ass to the ground if i saw you messing with anything on my property. have some respect... you don't have any.

get a job, take care of yourself, buy your own equipment, do it right.. and if you're not over 18 you have no business in this forum.

also, yeah the cfls may not be considered a fire hazard but your wiring most certainly is. also, i believe you smoking at all is a potential fire hazard

mmm don't think i said anything about kids die'n or burning down houses...but i know for a fact inverted CFLS ARE A FIRE HAZARD im not saying all inverted clfs will blow up and catch on fire....but Lamp cfls are made for up right laps because they do create heat...(not a lot) but they do and when u have them upside the little ballast thats is every CFL will over heat sometimes sparking a fire but what usally happens is the bulb burns out...think back have u ever had one of your CFL's burn out way before it should of...if u have, chances are thats is what happened...now if u go to a grow shop and buy a growing CFL's then thats a different story...they are built a lot better, stronger, more dependable. i grow with cfl's and i live in a town house (a bunch of houses attached to each other) so i did my home work, believe me if u want i really could care less. bongsmilie:mrgreen:
