My late june garden.. help please

So I have a large space to grow any fruits or vegetables.. The problem is that it's already late june. Anybody have any recommendations for fast harvesting plants?

I also want to grow two trees. One will be a chinese plum tree (I love growing those things) and I'm not sure what else.. But I do want to grow from seeds (not a tree from home depot).

I've never had my own big garden and I'm pretty excited.

Does anybody know of a good site to buy seeds from? Not cannabis seeds ha.

All my stuff is stuff that was already started at a local Ace hardware store garden section. lol.
I don't know how well it would go to start from seed tho in late June. Do potatoes, they're good year round.
There should be seeds at walmart and other places with garden sections.
Is it hot year round where you live? you might be okay if it is.

Pick up a book on gardening, I got a decent one for 10$ at the same store, has info on multiple plants growing seasons and watering, all that good stuff.
It should be pretty easy to find, or just search the web all the same information is already there.

Should be enough info for just about anything you may want to grow.

I would recommend picking up some veggies/fruits/herbs that are already started now.....And then start from seed in early Fall. You still have plenty of time to harvest some crops this yr. I don't know an online site to buy seeds but, If you're in the USA...You can usually get some Organic seeds at Home Depot & Lowe's. Pick up a potted tomato, a strawberry, some dill, etc for now and grab a few packs of seeds you know will grow in the fall! Plus, visit your local Garden Centers. I have a Calloways plus a totally independant store. I can usally get what I want/need at all these stores but A hydroponics store will have some other things you won't find anywhere else! .....Having books about what you are growing is always helpful! My Barnes & Noble can be expensive but they have a gardening section + gardening magazines + a Texas section with gardening books specifically for my area! 1/2 Priced Books is a good place, too! You can get great deals on the bigger, more detailed & picture heavy books that can be very expensive when new!

Maybe you should be looking at fall crops

Go to your local library and peruse their books to get an idea of what suits your needs. Most garden books by Rodale Press are worthwhile.

rareseeds.com is an excellent source for non-GMO/organic seeds. They are inexpensive and have a great selection.

Beans and summer squash would be easy to grow if planted now. Many others plants would work but success at this time of wear depends on your latitude.

Consider starting to germinate seeds for a fall garden now and you can plant them out in late August/September. Seeds to start now in trays would be broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, lettuce. Things to plant directly into the ground in Sept. would be carrots, beets, turnips, peas, garlic. Goodluck

Is it too late to plant a pumpkin seedling? About 3 or 4 inches tall?

Nah it should be okay. If possible let it get a bit bigger inside then adjust it to outside, make sure there's alot of room because its a vine plant and takes up alot of space. Happy growing.

Hey Hep do some research on Square Foot Gardening to maximize your yields.

I live in Texas.. It's hot as hell over here lol.
I was thinking about growing chillies and tomatoes since they grow year round (I think). And TRY to grow some melons. If I fail at them melons, at least I can always try next year and I would have gained some experience along the way.

Ooh next season I'm gonna try growing some strawberries and grapes.

Where you live you probably can grow year round, Buy some started strawberries this year n pick off all the flowers for the rest of the year for a way stronger plant and better berries next year. They say first year strawberries are a hindrance to growth n such.

Melons & grapes would be awesome, I wanna grow them too. If you put a sheet of coco coir or something down underneath a growing melon/pumpkin/etc it will keep it from touching soil and rotting on the bottom.

If you're gung ho for starting from seeds do herbs now, most grow rather quickly then maybe start lettuce or broccoli around mid-august. However I'd recommend peppers that are already started or strawberries. I had cayenne pepper plants exploding with peppers in November last year.

Is a 12" deep garden enough? How big are your gardens (question for everybody)? I'm talking about length, width, and depth.

I'm trying to find some seeds that my local stores don't have. Have any of you ever bought seeds online?

green beans take little time. you can buy large tomato plants that have flowers already. cukes like late summer. plant a bunch of lettuce and greens and eat as babies. you can pull off some crops if you start now.

So far I've dug up a 5x11 area but it's only 7 inches deep..

I'm gonna go out with the pick and my shovel in a little while when the sun goes down.
In a weird way, the work is fun.
