my lights keep getting shut off no clue why need help!!!

i just installed 2 t5s to replace my 1000 watt i have no clue why but the reset button keeps coming on and shutting off my lights in the room and the only way they will turn back on if i hit the reset button. the lights keep triping it has done it a few times i need to figure out why this is happening i dont want to be worryed about them shutting off :(

Are you talking about a reset on your T% fixture or on a power strip.

Have you changed bulbs to see if it may be that? If not then I would replace the fixture. Take it back where you got ir. The reset is like a reset on a power strip. If it thinks there is fault or to much power being drawn it will kick like a breaker.

I would check the bulbs and if it still does it. The reset is faulty. Make sure you have the correct wattage bulbs. I never had a reset on a fixture before but I know the fixtures I use to use kicked my power strip. my 400 watt doesn't but if I plug in a t5 fixture it does.

If you have access to the ballast check its output rating compared to your bulbs. May just be drawing to much power.

Find some cheap bulbs somewhere. Swap emm even if there the incorrect color temp. See if it still does it.

or are plugged in to a gfi outlet. Like what's in the bathrooms
if so find a new outlet gfis are for small stuff

Yes im referring to what is in bathrooms and in garages it says test then reset and a little red button lights up when it trips off. im not talking about a reset on the t5s just the outlet on the wall. i cleaned each bulb and put them in correctly so i dont know what could be the problem i had to get extension cords and hook them up to an outlet that was in the next room

im having an electrion come out tomorrow i just hope there is nothing worng with the t5s for them to be shuting the whole rooms electricity off

If the GFI is kicking out it's either a short to ground or a weak GFI. Overload won't cause it to kick out, That's what the breaker is for. The purpose of the GFI is to protect you from shock. If it's a new light fixture it's most likely defective, assuming you were using the circuit with the 1000 w before installing the t5 in it's place. GFI's can get finicky as they get old and drop out randomly, but if the 1000 worked fine before, I would suggest pulling the t5 down for now until the sparky says one way or the other.

During lights out Put the light that's causing problems into any other room with a known working gfi and monitor the light and outcome

try a different outlet. If it keeps doing its the light.. Get yo money back. If not than its the gfi.
like droopy said. Wait for they Sparky to check it out..
but id test it on a different outlet
before paying an electrition to tell your outlets fine and your light is shot

I am a electrician. every GFI has a amp rating. yours is probably a 15 or 20 amp. GFI outlet. I would not use less than a 30amp.GFI and make sure the breaker is a 30amp. too. or it will go out again.

Why dont you like 30amp breakers? You like 50s better or do you just stick to 20s? Or dont really know.............i think i know the answer ;)

Well random passerby,
I don't like people claiming to be "a electrician" giving poor advice that will result in hazardous conditions. Upgrading a breaker without giving consideration to wire size is criminally negligent. ;)

He said it needs to be upgraded to a 30 amp breaker as well, if his electrician comes out im sure he wouldnt just switch out the gfi and breaker without replacing the wire. Thats kinda silly......unless his wire can handle the load already.
