New Light Wont Work

Yo I went to the hydro store and bought a 600w Solarmax HPS bulb, 6" cooltube, and 600w Sun Master 10 magnetic ballast. I set it on a timer and it worked for 2 days but this morning the light didn't turn on . The ballast was making more noise than usual and everything else looks fine. I have it on 120v. Anyone know what could be wrong???

sounds like you just got a bad ballast or lemon, take it back and exchange it for a new one.I just took one back today that was a month old, just stopped working. i took it back and they gave me a new one ,no questions.

you got ripped off! dont tell them your useing it to grow cannabis! lol

The guy didn't even ask if I was growing a plant much less which kind.

Take it back and say you use it as a reading lamp by your bed.

Yup, get a replacement or a refund.

Make sure your bulb is tightly screwed in all the way, i had this problem before and the vibrations from all my fans had loosened the bulb enough that it wasnt striking right away and i'd have to tap or give it i little screwing in motion and it lit right back up. I got lucky, i called the grow store and they told me horror stories of people bulbs that were not in quite all the way getting a small space between the bulb and metal piece of the socket and the energy going in between them and /heating/melting it so bad that its impossible to do anything with at all, the bulb and socket will like fuse. I'll check my email and get you the info they gave me. they explain it better.

What caused the scorching is a rather common, however regrettable
problem. You didn't screw the lamp in the whole way. What happens is the
lamp was screwed in so there was a hair thin gap between the socket and
lamp "EYES". Close enough for the current to jump across. Overtime,
this will heat the eye's up and eventually start melting(welding) them.
We have even gotten lamps and sockets back soo badly damaged that the base
of the lamp was welded to the socket and we could not get them separated.
Please make sure the lamp does not turn tighter at all when screwing the
lamps in. I know they seem fragile, but they are designed to be able to
be properly screwed in.

This most likely damaged the lamp and now it is (what we call) cycling.
Lamp will fire, but not consistently and output may or may not be
correct. Definitely not something that you or me would consider reliable.

I went to the hydro store with my ballast, they plugged it in to a light and it worked! So I went home brought back my bulb instead; they plugged it in and nothing happened. Just a dud bulb. And apparently if a bulb is gonna fail, its gonna happen in the first week so its a 'normal' failure ha w/e i got a new one for free and it works my girl is happy n so am I
