would a General Hydroponics Water Farm be a good drip system for a beginners first attempt at hydro? or do i need something bigger? i'm not quite sure on how many gallons = 1 plant so... yah. help is appreciated

The only way to flower in that is you used clones. They would have to be flowered immediately otherwise the roots would fill that up and choke each other out.

It's possible, but you'd have much better results by using clones. The cloning process is easy and with a little research can be easily done. Normally plants need at least 12"x12" to grow.

ok i will definately look in to this cloning then. thanks for the input.

what do you think about maybe a couple of aqua farms or power growers then?

Sublime, I am thinking you do not understand what he is talking about. He is not asking if you can grow a plant in one gallon. Or what ever you are thinking.. At least this is what I am thinking...lmao

He wants to know if he can successfully mature a plant in a general Hydroponics Waterfarm System. These systems use a 5 gallon buckey, which is the rez tank, and inside this fits a 2 1/2 gallon bucket with a bunch of holes in the bottom. I have two of them, they work great. You can start a plant in one of these very easily from seed, and it will grow so fast, and be so easy you will think you will be able to get rich from growing weed. BUT!!!!!! then you will hit the last 2-4 weeks of flowering, and all hell will break loose. You root mass will be so huge in the bottom that you 2 1/2 gallon rez is only now about 1.25 gallons, and your plant is going to be drinking most of this up faster then you can keep the PPM and PH under control.

All in all, it is a good system, but for me, I had to add another 5 gallon bucket to each one with a hose and valve just to keep all the PPM and PH under control.

For a first time grower, it is a great starter system, just be ready to add another 5 gallon bucket to it, and still have your work cut out for you in the last few weeks of flowering. Myself, I put them away and will stick to my larger flood and drain systems. But my system did not cost $50 either.

I am very familiar with the waterfarm system. If you check my gallery you'll I used them a lot. He gave me a link for this http://www.texashydroponics.com/shop...s/t_833_01.jpg

That is why I answered the way I did.

Hear, hear, Im about 5 weeks into flowering in waterfarms. At this point the plants drink about a gallon a day, which leaves me with about 3 liters remaining in the res. (remainder root mass) I started to top off 2 times a day now to deal with ppm concentration and I will add another res for the next grow. Other then that, I love the waterfarms, I'm a true noob and my plants are still alive, lol!

yo bstreet, if you want to grow 6 plants try doing a ebb and flow..at least you won't have the ph drift you have in the power growers or hydrofarms..you can make an inexpensive system or you can buy a 2'x4' tray..they hold 6 plants perfectly spaced..general hydro is the only way I go but I have to tell you those bucket systems are good if you have one or two to deal with, but they become more work if you have more..check out hydroponic basics by george van patten..Its the best hydro book for the money, mine cost a whole 5 dollars and it has everything you'll need to know...good luck

Just for future reference, how do you add a 5 gallon bucket to the waterfarm system? I have two of these that I am planning to use in my first grow that will start in a week or so. I am an outdoor guy, so this is my first indoor/hydro grow. Also, do you have the pump on a timer or is it on 24/7? I am planning on starting my seeds in a small rockwool cube and transplanting to the hydrotron in a week or two.... is this the right way? Do the waterfarms have trouble with the clogging like a lot of other drip systems do? Thanks in advance for all the help.. I am feeling like a noob again!!

Waterfarms are very hard to plug up. They usually plug because of the root system filling the tube from below. As for how to hook up another 5 gallon bucket. Just drill a hole at the bottom of each bucket, fit in a rubber grommet, pleace a double male fitting in there. place a hose between the two buckets, then cut the hose and placve a small vale there to turn on and shut it off.. very easy.

This was my first grow. I have waterfarms and went through it all. Check out my journal if you want. I documented everything. I figured out how to balance ppm, nutes Ph.

If I was to start over I would look at Stealth hydros setup. The big one.
