I've always used nothing but 0ppm reverse osmosis to clone with. I used to dip my cuttings in cloning powder but lately just sprinkle it into the water a bit. It's very un soluable so I have a mesh filter bag on my pump. But I just use a 5 gallon bucket and PVC pieces stick through the lid that the cuttings set in. I got tired of using collars that algaed and needed cleaning every time.

Theeee most important thing is the health of the mother plant. You sure it doesn't have bugs?
Thrips had gotten to my moms and I didn't realize it and every time I tried new cuttings, three rounds, they got exactly as you describe. Water logged and stems turn to mush

When you do the cuttings make 4 slices near the end 1 cm to open it up. This will better encourage new roots compared to not. Nake sure cuttings are at least 3 inches and not much more

Make 4 slices straight down to improve your success and place the cuttings in the medium within seconds. The faster the better. Water fully till water comes out and cover with ziplock bag and elastic first 4 to 5 days. Make sure nice cuts or holes in cup for rockwool etc to breathe and elastic goes on center but not too low so some of your cups holes are exposed to air to increase success. Also keep in mind, some cuttings or strains are not as easily cloneable as others and will taje more perfect care. Only give cuttings ambient light to start with, no less than first week start giving it cfl far 6+ inches away, and watch those baby grow. If use soil or any medium, make no compaction. Burp cutting after 4 to 5 days start once per day unless you see droopage taking the bag off 15mins usually make it spije back up. This is good. You always want to see the up and down motion. More the better

[/QUOTE many people burp first day and keep going from there but you can wait longervif concerned cup may dry out too fast but look at leaf droopahe is a big sign of success or failure at first. Too much droopage, there's an early health problem

Haaaaard to see with naked eye. Thrips are one of the only ones you actually can if you're lucky. But little spots on the leaves where it looks as if a bug just sucked the juices right out, is a tell tell sign. Pics of your mid canopy leaves please?
