Noisy Air Pump - HELP PLEASE!

I have two noisy pumps.. While the sound does not bother me the couple living below me keeps asking me about a hum they are hearing and are becoming irritated with the sound.

Can someone please suggest a good fix.

I don't think it's a vibration because first I had it on blankets which should have muffled the vibration. Then I had I held it in my hand off of the floor and it didn't make a difference.

I'm thinking of maybe wrapping it in peel and seal?

I really need to clear this up before it turns into a SITUATION.

PD!

Can you get big foam blocks under the tank/reservoir as it did the job for me...

Try submersible pumps. They sit on little suction cup feet and don't move or shake around.

Good luck, BigSteve.

Fuck man don't put them anywhere inside box or any shit like that ...THEY WILL HEAT !..the only thing I am using is having mine on big cushion of air filter fabric that breaths nicely...but the only correct answer is go to aquarium shop and get those small black ones Hailea ACO with only 2 outlets or Sera 4 outlet those are visper quiet....do it now and don't risk your shit about few lousy bucks or burn your shit up for covering airpumps ,what is a dumb ass thing to do they heat...

use a bungie cord and suspend in mid air.
I have one, they are usually mounted upside down to take advantage of the bumper plate.
The hanging is what i do for my noisy stuff
Same here.

Anyone recommending putting anything on polystyrene that heats up, needs to learn the basics in risk management. Polystyrene is flammable as fuck

If you can get some speaker foam,or a cheaper option that works just has well ,egg boxe's make a box that the compressor fits in and just make sure it has a vent cover at the top,so any heat from it can rise and go out the vent,I use a fairly large compressor, and to be honest and i have no problem's,sometimes you will hear it but its easy sorted with a towel under it,most of the time if you can cushion it with a towel or foam the noise will go.If you use it to put air into a tank like i do i have found to have the air stone hanging mid water so its not touching the sides or bottom this helps with noise too, little things like that can make a big difference.

If people downstairs are complaining then vibrations are going through the building and you need to decouple the pump from the floor to fix the issue. There are several ways of doing this including:

1. Neoprene foam sheet under the pump.
2. Suspend the pump in the air. You can use bungees but plain old rope also works. I suspended a water chiller from the ceiling using rope and it made a dramatic difference.

If you have an issue with noise inside your room (in contrast to noise downstairs) then you'd need to pack insulation around the pump to stop sound waves penetrating out into the room... or buy a quieter pump!

I use bungees to suspend my air pumps in the air, helps quite a bit reducing that annoying humming noise.

I tried holding it in my hand and it didn't change anything at all. I don't think it's a vibration but the frequency of the sound it's making.

I wish I read this yesterday. Before I tried to make the foam box which didn't work at all.
