Thanks! Yeah, been keeping up with your journal, really beautiful plants. If I could get something of that quality on this first grow I'll be really happy. The missus will too
Though there are so many factors involved, and I am enjoying the journey and learning process, at least I know the light is solid. Really glad I made the initial investment.

Seems legit, lol.

So I went out and got some of these expanded clay pebbles and placed them on the surface of my soil. I couldn't find much else on the subject (my search results were more for using them as a complete substrate in hydro systems). If anyone else has experience or more info on them that'd be great, or any precautions or any reason NOT to use them in this way? Thanks.

I guess the only logistical thing I could think of is knowing 'dry' weight of my pots as a determiner when to water as sticking my finger in the soil isn't really the best option now...

1. Feel free to go kill your next meal with only bare hands without any shoes on. (No: knives/knife, rope, fishing equipment, things you might find useful in the area, gun(s), bow and arrow, traps, flashlight, camping equipment.)

@Rayne No thanks. Maybe my descendants will have to worry about that (or not) when the proverbial shit hits the fan and we see massive collapse of civilization. Though I am not so sure we would go back to stone age type living, for who survives (if human life is still supported as well as other trophic levels). Even then, stone age people utilized tools and weapons. But we could look then to so called 'primitive cultures' who still exist and live the same way they've lived for millennia. The use of blow guns, bows and arrows, rock slings, etc. in the hunt. Why not set up a trap as a sort of extension of myself to accomplish the very same thing? Yes there is this rhetoric about cooked meat being decayed. There are raw meat dishes as well, but there are the concerns with parasites and other organisms. Less cooked is better imo. I've helped drag roadkill deer back to a friends to process and had a really delicious stew with mostly wild harvested ingredients and deer meat. But yeah, can't say I've ever or would ever get to the level of mensturating skunk culo

I think someone once said it can cause root rot cause it constricts their coco from breathing and releasing the moisture back through the top. Can't Remember if they were in smart pots or not like you though. You're also using soil.

I have about 15% coco. A good portion of the soil is also perlite and vermiculite. The top of the soil does seem to dry out quicker now. Will have to keep an eye on it. Thank you.

I think you misinterpreted what I was saying. Haha. I'm saying I read that it DOESN'T dry out with clay pellets.

But you said it could cause root rot? @Airwalker16

[Update 10/01] - So to start I just want to say I am pretty bummed that for some strange reason all my meticulous notes (much more so than what I document here) somehow got deleted from the app I was using on my phone FML!
...Oh well, not the worst that could happen.


After some more thought I decided to go ahead and LST for 2 of the plants. The following are pictures since Wednesday when I initially tied them down. As of yesterday one of the other non-LST plants (second row, to the right) has shot up with more growth and is standing higher than all the rest. I am thinking I would like to start LST on her too. My only concerns would be space, but 3 LST and 3 non-LST sounds reasonable, no? The stem is thicker than the ones I started LST with on this one. From reading on another thread that one solution may be to overwater so the stem becomes more flexible during the droop and I could more effectively tie down without possibly snapping the stem? Would anyone advise against this?

One thing I am also noticing on new growth is the slight yellowish color. They don't appear to be unhealthy by any means, but maybe a slight deficiency of sulphur? I purchased some epsom salt and may give an application. Though the BioBizz growth stuff I have has some S in it...

That's Just The Way It Is With New Growth. They Start Out A Little Yellow At First Before They Green Up

Okay, I was trying to keep the intervals spaced in how often I post. But thought I'd just add a couple photos from today...

Gave a feeding this morning (3.5L water, 3mL BioHeaven, 4mL BioGrow & 1tsp StumpTea -veg). The plant heights are: 26cm, 23, 20, 19 and the two LST'ed plants are 14/15cm. I think I may go for only a few more days in veg (the 6th of Oct. will mark 1 month from start of seeds) before flipping to 12/12. Space is getting limited and don't want to overcrowd them... Or maybe I'm just trippin'

Got 2 Notthern Lights that have had nothing but luv from a Photon 180 1818 citizen 3500k. 59 days and amber showing up. The light does a great job having swelled the buds real well with frost looking as dense as any other time I ran NL. Very happy with the Photon. 3500k 90 cri which claims more energy in the reds did the job here.

No drama, just a lot of intensely bright light.
