Sounds like it's not fully ripened if the amber is on the leaves and not the buds.
Hey, I see you around a lot and you seem to know your stuff, but I've done tons of research on this and you have to understand that others are having the exact same problem with this strain. I am Northern Lights obsessed !

So, I read just about everything that people say about this strain and a lot of people never get the amber trics. They get cloudy and the bud is amazing, but if you wait for amber, you'll be waiting too long..

I was on a thread discussing this when I met a guy that's grown NL many many times..... Here is what he said..

"I've grown Northern Lights for about 25 crops, and she always finished around Day 65-75." (after 12/12)

Most Breeders list NL as fast flowering, 7-9 weeks.... (Yes I know about pre flower) so lets add two weeks to the breeder recommendation 8 weeks + 2 week Pre flower - around 10 Weeks....

Interesting. I'll have to grab some seeds from AK BB and see what my experience is.

What makes it a noob strain? Never heard that before.
Easy to grow, loves to be trained, grows bushy not lanky. mold resistant, fast flowering, pest resistant, HUGE colas... Very Forgiving, Low Odor !

If you go to any seedbank and filter for "beginner" strains, NL is normally at the top of the list ....

Here is my second NL grow mid flower.... EZPZ even for a newbie like me.

I just harvested an '89 Northern Lights from AKBB. One of the best plants I've grown. Probably could have waited another week or so... I chopped at 60 days. The plant had that grass smell, i don't dry as long as some, but its disappeared in the cure - my buds are beautiful, tight, well manicured and still mossy/squishy and the citrusy chemical smell explodes when you pinch it/tear it. Will be growing it again soon...

My Northern Lights was relatively low odor until after cure. I have some buds now that have been curing for over a year and you should smell them now ! Very strong smell when opening a jar.... Honey, Pine, Lemon, Earth.... A classic weed smell.

My last grow was akbb's nl5/haze. 4 totally different phenos but they were ready earlier than most i have grown.View attachment 5234677

Nice buds ! I harvested a few early on my last grow and they looked green and colorful like yours. Waiting for amber my buds lost a bit of that green but the potency and couch lock went up after a few more weeks.---

Early harvested NL (week 7 flower)= More energy, less couch lock. Best flavor, absolutely delicous....Potency--- Average to mild.

Late Harvest NL- (Week 10 Flower)= Grab a chair (or couch) your gonna need it.. Want that remote control to turn the TV on? Sorry, its three feet away--- that's too far while being stuck to the couch...

I chopped around 70 days. Great flavor and smell, earthy and kind of coffee like. One was pretty catpissy.
Inconsistent but good smoke overall

So I noticed the OP stated that's his plant was foxtailing. Ime, the foxtails just keep stacking and throwing pistils, instead of ripening. Anyone else have foxtails with their nl's? If so, try dimming the light and see if that helps.

Yes !!!!! For some reason, NL keeps adding more new pistols and clear trics way late into flowering. I even tried the "backbuilding": technique cutting the bud tops to prevent this. It helped, but now that I'm a few grows into Northern Lights I know what to expect.

The fox tailing might be due to the fact that his plant is so late into flowering.... 13 Weeks flower for NL is way longer than most go...

I started mimicking seasonal light cycle where I live, reducing the light 30 min every week starting at 4 weeks into flower, (3 grows back) to see if it would speed up the finish.

By week 8 I was 10 light/14 dark.

This is growing same genetics and surprisingly the plants that previously went 10-11 weeks and still throwing minor new pistols under 12/12 were completely finished the end of the 8th week, and chopped.

Doing this seems to land right on the breeders stated finish time for me.

Give it a shot!
