Old dog, new tricks.

So I haven't tried growing in over 35 years. Since it's legal now and the kids are grown I've decided to throw my hat back in the ring and give it another shot. Things have changed. In my day it was shitty Mexican or Columbian field weed. Today's weed is so much better. All that being said I bought the gear. You know, lights, fans, smart pots, tent, timers and yes even seeds. It took 24 hours for my 4 seeds to sprout in the paper towel. From there into the peat pods. 48 hours later all 4 had sprouted so I move them to Solo cups. The first pic is 7 days from going into the paper towel. Second pic is 14 days. I'll post progess every 7 days. That was Thursday. Yesterday I FIM'd all 4. Today I transplanted all 4 into their final pots. Being inexperienced I never knew to coordinate my plants so this first grow should be interesting to say the least. I have 2 sativa, Bruce Banner#3, and Durban Poison, and two indica, a Wedding Cake and an auto Critical Thunder. Before 2 weeks ago I had never even heard of auto flower. I plan to let it run the same light cycle as the rest. Can anyone fill me in on what challenges to expect?

I am running my first batch of autos.

I've had to go half dose on nutrients and watch your heat closely.
They don't seem to like anything above 80F.

Think of them as the Millenials of pot.

They're overly sensitive about everything.

Treat them with kid gloves and you should be good.

Looking forward to see the progress and welcome to RIU. The seedlings look great. Good varieties. Wedding Cake. Mmmmmmm. I saw you’re in FFOF. You probably won’t need to fertilize for a long while, a month or more probably. Maybe a little calmag if your under LEDs. What fertilizers are you intending? Most of the published fert company feed charts are just crazy high

Think of them as terrible! You can't clone them. No preserving that one wicked pheno for mass cultivation. No sending your buddy a cutting. You are always stuck buying expensive seeds (what the breeder wants).

Photos are the only plants I will ever grow and the only plants I will ever recommend to anyone that really loves weed and wants to protect the genome from this horrid ruderalis genetic contamination. It is already so hard to find the true old school landrace strains, many are lost to the ages due to breeding, the last thing we want is to add unwanted genes into the gene pool.

OK bongsmilie rant completed. lol grow whatever you want, people like me will keep things safe for the rest of us. I am fortunate to be connected with one grower that only collects rare old school stuff. Guy has a real stable and he asks high prices for his cuts but they are all the real deal and clean.

If I'm saving thousands of dollars on weed I don't have a problem shelling out a few bucks for some quality grow. Besides, the Wedding Cake and Critical Thunder were freebies when I bought the Bruce Banner and Durban Poison.

@Joe3166 I’m so happy to see that Renfro has his head firmly above the sand. While the sky isn’t exactly falling, it’s heavily overcast for cannabis growers if we don’t collectively take a stand on autos.
You learned only two weeks ago that autos existed. Now please try to forget or forego them.
Misleadingly suggesting that the grow will be much easier than photoperiods, automatics are the only way breeders can control the seed market, and people have jumped aboard this rat infested ship.

Renfro didn’t fully explain why he calls cannabis ruderalis horrid: most farmers would never intentionally breed inferior characteristics into a crop, when doing so provides no genuine benefit. So why did we do it?
Because at the time (2012-ish) it seemed a stealth way to grow a crop to flower outdoors in only a couple of months. Kind of makes sense.
But indoors? Doesn’t make sense. You control the light. You control the space. Autos offer zero advantages and come with their own troublesome idiosyncrasies.

Breeding your own seeds is very satisfying, and it’s a chance to give seeds away, which is also satisfying. I’ve mailed seeds to needy strangers. I’ve handed hundreds of seeds to aspiring growers so they can dive in without having to sprout only 3 or 4 seeds at a time due to expense.

There you go again with another great post @Renfro. I really like the clone only strain originals and am lucky I have a place close by to get them from. But we are more fortunate than some since we're in CO, haha.

Day 42 Nov 22 Since the Critical Thunder has started to bud I'm flipping the other 3 today so they're in the dark. This plant is starting to scare me. Only 9 inches tall but almost 23 inches wide. there's actually some nice quality autos out there now, but...if you have the room and the time, you're going to get more, and mostly better results from photoperiod plants than from autos.
since you did it so early, it should probably be ok, but you usually don't want to top an auto, they don't have time to get over shit, they're sprinting to the finish line and any injury just slows them down. they're notoriously light feeders, the food you feed your other plants will probably be at least 30% too strong, maybe 50%. and you can, and should pull them out of the tent when the lights go off, and set them under the next best source of light available. they need zero darkness, just another thing to slow them down

Full strength nutes and 18/6 light schedule. Day 52 autos. Second pic is a topped Jack Herer. Can see split in pic. Just sayin...

This entire grow is ending up as a great learning experiment. I never even knew what autos were until after I started this grow
