WTF? Is that growin' out of a cow patty?
Cow patty? Sir, that is a rock that was scientifically selected to match the aggregate road material found throughout the Columbian highlands. It is a very close match based on both specular density and molecular porosity. However, this particular experiment does not replicate what happens in South America for reasons too numerous to list. Despite such shortcomings, some useful conclusions were derived:
1. Sun drying is quick. If you are in a hurry, this may be the answer.
2. Testing revealed that sun drying alone does not contribute to harshness.
3. The UV exposure from sun drying has little to no effect on potency.
4. The flavor profile of the product is radically altered. I would describe it as "tobacco-ey". But hillbillies won't care about that.
5. The color becomes lighter, almost yellowish.
Note that these results are from direct sun exposure for 2.5 days with no rain. Indirect sun exposure during outdoor drying does not cause any significant changes, in my experience.
