Been wanting to throw a plant outdoors in my garden for some time, but living in the state i do makes me nervous since I sèe so many monsters on here. Is there a way to keep them around 3-4 feet not trying to pull pounds but few Oz would be nice. Got a few autos I can try but I have had the worst luck with those Damn things. Figure the obvious is LST, and topping but anyone got a link to a similar grow or ever tried it.
Should I even veg indoors?

A friend of mine planted under a large piece of horizontal chicken wire (was square tho..so maybe more like bird wire) around 1f off the ground.

He then just trained his plant like a vine. Worked well but he did need to do a bit of pruning to keep airflow up. From memory he got a really good yield adf the height at the end would of been around 4 f.

Mine go on my rooftop outdoors and imo gallons translate to height, at least for shorter veg seasons, 1 gal = 1 ft, etc. I use between 5-10 gallon pots and average about 4-5 ft plants. BUT, you can always train them any way you like, vines, etc....

I supercropped the main stem of some local sativa plants then used short pieces of coat hanger stuck in the ground to keep it down, and it grew in a horizontal fashion around the perimeter so I know it can be done by training. You just need to start early before the stems get woody.

I grow outdoors in Colorado but I have been able to keep them under 4 ft. Small planters would be the easiest. An outdoor scrog would work. If your trying to keep it simple just get an indica and start topping it until flowering.

Hey Sire, much the same situation here (illegal) so I've been growing them in 10gal fabric pots last couple of years. Added some trellises inside the pots to train them and keep the height below 4ft. but wide/spread out. These pulled 21 oz. between them last summer.

I had 1-2 pound plants I kept at 4.5' tall or under. Just have to train them like crazy. Tie them down or even better, train them through a horizontal trellis netting. Definitely possible. Best of luck!

--Indicas or small containers will help to.

I use 7.5 gallon pots to keep the plants under fence line height, due to proximity of one of my neighbors. I purchase dispensary clones and pot them outside around 5/15. The space I have to grow in only gets about 4 - 5 hours of direct sun per day. They consistently top out at about 4.5 to 5 feet tall and about 2.5' in diameter so they fit perfectly in the small space I have. Each plant produces about 1/4 - 1/2 lb of dried bud which is plenty for me and some giveaway for a couple of buds who can't afford decent bud.

Despite all the limitations above, I'm extremely happy with the quality of the colas and they way they smoke.

Best of luck to you.

That's pretty much what I do and it works great. 4 bamboo steaks holding up some metal fencing at 2 foot off the ground. Train it down until the first signs of flowering, then let it go.

Do you sink your pots to ground level? If your pots are two feet, that is two more feet of bud.

If growing outdoors, and you want to avoid a high profile, you should do what the others suggested here, topping, tying down etc. .

Then when you put them outside, it wouldn't hurt to put them in a natural dip or depression if you are growing in an area that has pockets of that kind of terrain. Natural camo is there if you can find it.
