Over-Mature Plant.......I Think

I just chopped a 3' Blackberry plant grown from a feminized seed. I grew the plant in a 3 gallon bubble bucket under a 400w HPS using the Lucas Formula with GH 3-Series (Grow omitted). I also added CalMag+ due to RO water being used and AquaShield for the roots.

The information from the seed bank stated that the strain was Indica-dominant with a flowering period of 55-65 days. After 65 days of 12/12, the plant looked nowhere near ready to chop. The hairs were about 95% white and new and the trichomes were all clear. I ended up chopping her at 14 weeks (98 days) and only because little bananas started growing on the tops of the flowers and even caused a few seeds to begin to grow.

I am thinking this happened because I overshot the harvest window. My question is what could make the plant continue to flower to the extent that it does not look mature enough to harvest?

The potency was not that good either, which further makes me think I over-grew. Any input is greatly appreciated.

Yes over running a plant can make it shit but it`s some what personal taste too

You have to learn a strain mate, what it likes to get the very best, when to spike it with more or less food

when to hit it hard with extra lights and what other things you can do that it may like or may not like

but it`s a seed not a clone they are not all beauty queens they can all differ a lot from the parent and feminizing a seed can sometimes have some very negative effects

another trick would be to put the plant back into veg and then go back into flower in 2 weeks as they normally make a whole load of new bud and younger flowers tend to smell more, I find most smell comes around the half way point as the hairs start to come in and the buds harden the smell is never as sweet

but if you secondary flower you can get them stinky, personally I have a 2nd light zone set up or I cause the change chemically using pgr`s

Some strains dont go amber. It hermied or was male all along
It was definitely female. I harvested 5 - 1/4 oz. of bud but its just not as powerful as I expected it to be. Its real fluffy and the buds fox-tailed a lot toward the last few weeks of growing. Do you think over-maturing caused the herming?

This was my 3rd grow and first with this strain. Is it common for some strains to have a lot of white hairs still on the plant when the trichs indicate maturity? I really don't want to believe that this strain is simply inferior but like you said, it could have just been that particular seed.

trust me mate when you seed a plant even if you have double bread and stabilized it the most you can get from seed is a 99% chance of getting "that" plant

It`s impossible in reality for it to be exactly the same

but it can be so close that you could only tell by the dna

or it can be different enough that it makes a difference, plus you get mutants and also you never know if the original had hybrid vigour

sometimes there better then the mum and sometimes there not

I like feminized seeds for how easy they are with a good breeder all the ones that make it to flower normally come female for me

sometimes with regs you get 1 and I don`t mean 1 good one sometimes just one makes it to flower and is female, but if you have space to plant extra`s the best female you find from say 100 regulars you`d normally plant way more fem`d seeds to find a girl as nice, but the average plant from a fem`d seed will be better

So you know fem`d seeds are both good and bad...

I gotcha!! Natural selection should still be applied even to feminized seeds. Thankfully I got 5 so maybe one of the others will be more potent and less likely to herm. Thanks for the explanation.

no problem dude

You see even top breeders grow from seed from their own stock and a few will test higher for resin then others they use them to breed with but it`s common to see say 8%thc and 16% thc from 2 sister seeds

They can`t all be beauty queens but unlike real women we can kill all the ugly ones we like, lol

Oh your bulb was fresh right ?

Yes. This was only the 2nd grow that I used this 400w.

I am switching to bubble flow buckets with a ScrOG for my next grow. I'm think I'm going to give this Blackberry another day in court but move my light up a bit more away from the canopy. Time will tell the tale.

Just remember, like with THC content, flowering times cans be wildly inaccurate. They might have grown one plant that is indeed a 65 day flower. However there could be another phenotype in the mix that is 100 day flower. Learn when to harvest (you talk about hairs and trichomes so you've clearly done the reading) and not when to harvest based on a flowering time. It's ready when it's ready.

Far as your original question, whether your plant may have sprung nanners simply because you harvested it so late, look up Rodelization. It refers to a female plant's final effort to reproduce through producing feminized pollen through nanners late in flower. Its also utilized by breeders looking to produce female seeds. Not the best way to do it though.
