Probably not - though I've personally dealt with the big C through loved ones. My wonderful wife has had 2 brushes with it and my mother lost her battle with it no long ago.
Empathy I have plenty of.

Pinworm please stop the BS in this thread. This thread is dedicated to helping others in the memory of Scoobys murdered brother not another thread to be shit bombed for sport. It is disrespectful and unkind to fuck with No Clue who made an 1800 miles drive to get help for a disease over which he has been given a death sentence. This is the kind of Bullshit that runs folks away from RIU.

Pinworm. You have chosen to pick a fight with a man who needs every bit of his energy and focus to save his own life. I hope that someday if you find yourself in this or a similar unfortunate life situation that there is not some douchebag that decides to make your tragedy their morning fun.

I am going to put you on ignore as I am not interested in wasting my time or energy with you or your sick game. I would ask that other RIU members do the same and this douchebag will no longer have an audience.

*** I was already given permission by the site admin to open this thread last year ***

in the spirit of paying it forward as i have been trying to do with a little bit of hate from some of the members here i would like to propose that those of you who have seen my generosity as an act of kindness and not one of a person "trying to buy friends" or "be a pompous ass" please read these remarks with an open mind and heart.

as many of you are aware my brother was murdered in afghanistan on may 4th, 2013 during combat operations with Marine Special Operations 2nd Battalion. He was the best person i ever knew and was the soul of my family and the compass for so many. his north was the TRUE north.

View attachment 2987378

last year we set up a scholarship fund in his honor. the soul objective of the fund is to provide a 4 year scholarship every year to a graduating high school senior who demonstrates the moral character and civil responsibilities that my brother so embodied. My family personally funded the scholarship account and received 1000's of donations from friends, family, and complete strangers. In an effort to keep my brother's legacy alive i am posting this thread in hopes that some of you will look at it and think of what the servicemen and women of our country put on the line everyday for our safety and security.

last years recipient was a talented young musician from virginia who's parents did not qualify for financial aid so they were unable to send him to the school he had been accepted to which had one of the better music programs in the country. we made a commitment to this young man; his education, and his future by committing to pay all 4 years of his tuition. my brother was an avid musician and athlete who could play guitar, keyboards, piano, and drums. he also recorded his own music.

many of you will look at this as a scam or some form of me trying to gain attention and you are entitled to your opinion. please remember though that my brother gave his life for his country. he was on his 5th tour in some of the most dangerous parts of the world with some of the most elite special operations forces the u.s. military has. he was the team leader of a small 6 man tactical operations force. when his casket left the airport in afghanistan 1500 troops lined the runway at full attention to pay respect to the man, soldier, and brother in arms that he was. the base commander later sent letter to my mother and told us that he had never seen this before in all of his time in combat zones. if you do not believe in this scholarship fund then i urge you to donate to the wounded warrior project or any of the other accredited service member support foundations like the gold star moms, nam knights, etc...

should you wish to make a donation i ask that you send a check or money order (that way you know it is going to the foundation); but we also accept cash if you wish to remain anonymous. payment should be made and sent to:

Eric D. Christian Memorial Scholarship Fund
6 Laudaten Way
Warwick, NY 10990

If you doubt the validity of my brother; his service; and the respect he commanded then i ask you to watch this video of the President of the United States on Memorial Day 2013. Skip to 7:55 if you do not wish to watch the whole thing.

[video=youtube;LIRr-kqatY4]

thank you for your time.
My condolences scooby. As a VFW myself i think you are doing a great thing here. I am a poor man with a family and money stays tight. The only folks i part with it for is the Wound Warriors when i can. I get a head a little i would love to help you with your mission too:-)

I watched as this went down last night. I'd just like to mention these 5 stages of the grieving process:
(1) Denial,
(2) Anger,
(3) Bargaining,
(4) Grief
(5) Acceptance

He needed a punching bag and last night it was Pin Worm. It was a service. I almost dropped in and swung for the fences with him a time or two myself. He/she needed it. It's better to exorcise that emotion here than with your family who is having to face the possible loss of you and there's the ambivalence about offending the support network you must have. The realization of this dependency alone creates massive anger in most men and some women.

Pin worm provided a service here last night. I would have gotten much more personal with the guy. Pin handled it fairly evenly. Anyway if you're interested I highly recommend Elisabeth Kubler Ross's work.

You seem like a wonderful caring guy and I appreciate exactly where your concern and indignation came from. That's why I tried to explain, not just the defense of the worm.

You are uninformed at best. I met this man personally less than a week after he was told he was going to die. Fighting with flat screen heroes takes away from the fight he is in right now this and every second for his life. The negative energy generated for whatever selfish reasons detracts from his ability and focus. I am terribly sorry for whatever character flaws that allow you to feel it is sport or therapeutic to victims to make them punching bags. Do you make jokes to rape victims to toughen them up too?

When provoked, I respond in kind, idiot.
pinworm, give him a fuking break. He really did find out and it isn't just "in his nutsack." It is in his lymphatic system. Would you like me to explain what a lymphatic system is? Or will you just ask your mom?
