I love birds, but Idk, I always feel bad keeping them in a small cage.. IMO, birds are meant to be free and fly around..
So now I just feed the birds outside and watch them through the window in their natural habitat..
my nono (grandfather in italian) always had a bird, he kept it in a cage and just loved it i guess hes had one every since he was a kid he always named them Gigi, anyways when he went to the retirement home my mom took thebird in, hes wonderful he sings alll the time, for a while when i lived at home during college he was in the bathroom as lots of sunlight there, whenever i took a shower he would sing his little lungs out

felt like fucking snow white

I had a bird once. It didn't last three days before I had to give it back. I had two dogs, and every time one of them barked the god damned bird flew straight to the floor. They never hurt him, but he was too stressed by their presence and his days were numbered if he stayed.

It wasn't funny, but it was baffling. I tried talking sense to the bird, like "dude, look at all of those high spots where you could fly and be safe, but you decide to fly down to them? You're doing it wrong!"

Apparently, I do not speak bird.

I was around 6-7 yrs, the late '50's....somehow we ended up with a parakeet, who knows whose idea it was: dad didn't like animals at all and mom adored cats....so we had cats. But somehow we ended up with this parakeet...he was this light blue color, the folks had these high hopes he was gonna talk, so mom spends hours talking to him. Nada, zip, zilch.....nd the poor little fucker's best friend was our tomcat, a monster un-neutered orange tabby(no fat, 17 lbs) who bullied all the dogs on the block, this cat was a true predator and he ruled this block of suburbia, always fighting with some critter and winning. Anyway, the bird lived in his cage and obviously the cat wanted to eat him so the cat was always near the cage; the bird was terrified of humans but loved that cat and would chirp and trill when the cat was hanging around

We lived on Clark AFB (Philippines) in the 60's & Mom got dad this parrot.
He was a decent bird & talked occasionally (when he felt like it) and on nice days dad would put the cage on the patio.
One evening at dinner time we heard this unGodly caterwaul and a huge crash come from the porch.
Turns out this cat took a fancy to the bird & made the poor decision to reach in & grab it - Cat, bird & cage came crashing to the floor & by the time we got out there, all to be seen was the bird walking around in the tipped over cage, a cat toe on the ground with the accompanying vacating blood trail.

That bird was proud as shit of his conquest.

I love this...I got bit yesterday by the ex's parrot.....for no reason, he attacked me! Drew blood and my dog went fucking nuts( Sal, pic posted earlier)....it was 40 seconds of incoming, artillery crazed chaos. Everybody lived, the parrot's cage is half crushed...............and the parrot thinks he won....

It won't let me rep you.....but +rep anyway

Lol, right?
Our old dog would find baby bunnies out in the yard and gooble them up alive.. I know, very nasty, but it is what it is..
Anyhoo, he was just a dog, I can imagine what a gator could do to a cat ffs.. one lil bite is all it'd take..

My formative years were mostly spent in S. Fla - both parents worked for Everglades Ntl. park & I was down there all the time.
I have actually caught small alligators while fishing.
Once while in the park bass fishing I saw an elderly gentleman walking his (wife's ?) little fluffy poodle on a rhinestone leash. There was a smaller lizard (6' or so) laying on the bank of the lake I was fishing in & this dumb snow bird walked his dog right down to its nose with the expected ending.

His wife was pissed !

Except my orange tabby...I was mauled by my neighbor's dog...who was a GS; and I was scared shitless of him...weeks or months afterwards, my cat jumps the fence over to the dog and I'm crying cuz my cat is gonna die...hear some woofs and raors...then nothin....I'm thinking my cat! I climb up and look over and see the cat laying down caz as can be and that German Shepard cowering and backing away...then he ran. The cat lived a long happy life and died in my bedroom when I was a Jr in high school
