Seeing how people keep bumping this thread, I thought I'd finally get around to sharing my Platinum customer service experience.
A couple of years ago, I needed a veg light to pre-veg some clones that I wanted to put outside for the summer. I already owned a couple of P-150s, and after reading some forums(I think it was 420mag), discovered that Platinum was offering custom veg spectrum versions of their lights "made to order". Awesome! I ordered one, and asked that they remove some of the red diodes and replace them with white and blue diodes. I received my light a week or so later, set it up in a small tent, and that was that. Or so I thought. The girls stretched quite a bit, but I didn't think much of it at the time, as they were going outside anyway. I took the light and tent down and packed them away.
This past summer, I decided to repeat this process and got similar results - a lot of stretch. So, I got one of my "standard" P-150s, turned it on, and took a pic of the diodes while on. I did the same thing with my "super custom veg" P-150. Guess what??? They had the exact same diodes - there was no difference between the two.
So I decided to email Platinum and ask them about it, knowing full well that any kind of refund/return would be out of the question.
The response: "First, we do not make “veg only” lights. We used to offer that option for a bit but found out that our existing lights worked better in veg than the veg only. So.. nothing shady there. We only sell one type of light so you received exactly what was ordered"
I responded calling bullshit on that, telling him that I had spoke with somebody on the phone and that a custom veg spectrum would be no problem. I also mentioned that a P-150 with the reds replaced with blues and whites would crush a regular P-150 in veg. All of a sudden - "oh yeah, we used to make veg spectrum lights.
"First, there’s no need to use language with us or get ugly. That doesn’t make anyone work any harder or faster or try to take care of you any better. In fact, the opposite at times. We’re all adults here so let’s be cool.
Second, we did some research and found emails from about a year and a half ago where we had the veg light conversation. This is when we were still making them on a custom order basis.. we are not anymore.. and we have not for quite some time. This is where the confusion came in. Regarding that order, you most definitely were shipped a veg light and we have the records for it. You have always received exactly what you have ordered every single time, rest assured."
My response: "Really? Is that why you guys sent me a light with exactly the same number/color of diodes as the 2 other 150s I own. How does that even make sense, I mean, at least here on planet earth. You sent me a "veg light" with the exact same diodes as my regular lights? Please explain this one to me.
My posts tomorrow are going to cost your company thousands. Should be a good time. You can lick all of my balls. Your company is going to be dead inside of a year or two.
And you know what? I just went back and reread my previous email to you - I'm convinced that using the word "bullshit" and calling you out on your shady-as-fuck business tactics doesn't mean I was "getting ugly". I'm just calling a spade a spade. Yeah, I know - it sucks to be called out when you were attempting to fuck somebody over. Sure - you guys sent me a "veg light" with the exact same diodes as my other 2 P150s - that makes perfect sense. WTF???"
They never emailed me back.
