Platnium GSC outdoors

I live in Oregon and last year got two GSC clones when it became legal on July 1. I grew outdoors in pots and they turned out really good. We had a hot/late summer so they got finished.
This year I bought two Platnium GSC clones on May 13. In only a week I was able to snip off some small branches and tried ti clone them. I thought they may not make it but they did and now a month later are about to be re-potted.

My older girls were going along great. We have had some unusual hot weather, then some cooler than normal weather. I water with mostly compost tea. Made from worms eating alpaca poop and turning it into castings. Seems to always work well.
All of a sudden I saw some of the lower leaves start to get a purple hue and then almost black. Any ideas??
Also as an observation these girls have some HUGE fan leaves.

Today I flushed plants just for precaution. Don't know how good my ph reader is but it showed 7 or a hair above.

I ran Platinum GSC indoors in my first grow, and the leaves got that dark purple color as part of the pheno. I don't recall if it happened more towards the end of the run or was there all along though, it was a half dozen grows ago. I found a pic, not good quality, but you can see how dark the leaves are compared to a Casey Jones that I was growing with it.

I tried a GSC Dough last year in my outdoor, it was my first time growing on this property and I underestimated the fall sun drop and didn't have enough late season light to finish it. 6' tall and 8' wide in a double scrog, covered top to bottom in small underdeveloped buds. Composted the whole thing. Its totally awesome if you have enough season to finish them where you are. (I'm in the NE corner of Multnomah County)

Thanks for reply! I tried to investigate and found a lot of tail chasing if that makes sense. I was getting paranoid about them but know I am doing close to exactly like last year . Since I got started a month and a half sooner this year I am pretty confident they will finish. Even the clones are going to be several weeks ahead of last year.
I'm just south of Ptown but have enough property to move the containers if needed to max out the sun..
 
I would guess that maybe it's the cold nights?
Platinum cookies is in my regular rotation, I know the plant pretty well. It tends to get some dark purple if night time gets below 60.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, we have been having cool nights.
I'm feeding the same compost tea to other flowers/veggies and all are looking great except the cool has slowed growth the last week or so.
 
GSC my favorite strain. I've only been able to finish this strain in a GH. This will be my 3rd year growing it, this year from feminized seed the other two years were clones from Progressive Collective in Portland. They've all had purple traits to them for sure colder temps bring it out. Also last year It was the only plant I had that needed a little cal/mag boost. This strain is a calcium and magnesium hog.... I have to double dose with CalMag to keep it from dropping all its leaves. This deficiency on this plant totally affects the bud quality.

It's funny, because when I grew GSC it was my first grow, and I didn't even know what what cal-mag was yet. But that grow was under 440w of standard household CFLs all mounted to a board in a closet, and CFLs are very forgiving. Found this pic of the Platinum GSC... all this talk about it, I think I'll put it back on the short list for my next winter indoor grow.

Edit: and @slow drawl - I think I got mine at Progressive Collective too, one of my two favorite places to pick up clones.
 
We got a cut of a fortune cookie that looks IDENTICAL to the cookie fam/collective efforts cut....i mean identical. This cut produces fire like none other no matter how or where its grown. Turns platinum bluish/purple when the temps drop

Your plants look healthy and sounds like you have a good routine. I think up potting with some cal/mag rich soil would help a bit for the GSC. You having finished last years plants is good testament to your ability. I will say every clone I've purchased is a gamble as every pheno can be different. This year all of my plants were from seed, I will never buy another clone.
 
I read exactly what you wrote or I wouldnt have commented in the 1st place....You double dose with cal mag, but I am referring to your soil mix the plant lives in.

Or was that the 1st time you grew it you were referring to?

I'm in rogue river Oregon. My PGSC are in 200g, it was a little chilly last week. We watched the stalks new growth at the time tell the story of the chilly nights, but no leaves changed(soil is so damn hot!!!). Definitely counter with some cal mag. Do you foliar feed at all??
 
We all learn the behavior of new strains when we first grow them, the first couple PGSC I grew awhile back kept getting leaf rust blotches and dropping. I have since determined it was either Ca, Mg, or both. Now I double the CaMg as well as mix powdered dolomite into the soil to prevent this. It's not a current problem I have, but one that I did have in my first cycle with this particular strain.
Greenway Biotech makes the best in my opinion.
 
last day of june.jpg4.jpeg Last year's late start with gsc allowed me to grow in relatively small pots.So when I trans planted this year's Pgsc, I used the same pots. Yesterday, when I went to re pot again, I found they had started to become rot bound already. Had to cut the pulp pot to release plant. They are now in 25 gal bags. Guess these platinums are going to be big. Stems already close as finish size last year. Last year I had a wagon to wheel plants around to different locations. Plants are looking good.
 
Just more info here that I forgot. I do add some bone meal and lime to mix. Also put some magnesium sulfate about once a week.
Was looking to buy some Epsom salt for my roses a few years ago. Found it was quite expensive but got a fifty pound bag of magnesium sulfate at the feed store for about $22.
