Mix a 1000ppm solution 1gram/1liter use 7-10ml of your chlorine solution per gallon of your nutrient solution for 2-3ppm chlorine
just came across this and most of what imA good ph pen will show the difference. Chlorine dissipates over time, as does peroxide in a sterile rez...as do bennies.
Chlorine works this way in a pool. You shock your pool by hitting it with chlorine, which you do once a week. Usually after 24 hours its good to swim again and after a week it needs a shock.
in my 14 gallon res i add 20ml of my pool shock solution when i fill the res every 3 days.
I copied this from a search. Your hydro res is like a mini pool. And it has roots and things that want to pump up the bacterial funk.
Chlorine kills bacteria though a fairly simple chemical reaction. The chlorine solution you pour into the water breaks down into many different chemicals, including hypochlorous acid (HOCl) and hypochlorite ion (OCl-). Both kill microorganisms and bacteria by attacking the lipids in the cell walls and destroying the enzymes and structures inside the cell, rendering them oxidized and harmless.
TDS meters will not measure chlorine levels....TDS meter i mean... mine shows down to 1ppm
You do mean fluid oz right? You are supposed to mix 1 gram per gallon of H20, then use 1oz of that solution per 5 gallons of water in your rez.
yepYou do mean fluid oz right?
why would they not measure the level? 5ppm and under is safe. My TDS meter is accurate to the 10th of a point.TDS meters will not measure chlorine levels....
TDS meters only measure the electrical conductivity of water and convert it to ppms. Salts create electrical conductivity, hence they are call electrolytes. If you are measuring sodium hypochlorite in water, your meter is reading the sodium levels not free chlorine. Chlorine is not a salt.why would they not measure the level? 5ppm and under is safe. How well does your solution store? Here's the label, when I dissolve 1 tablet to 2.5ltr I get 2.0ec/1000 ppm

Mixing calcium chloride and mpk i use the the same calculation.
99% no problems with roughly 5-7 days sitting in the reservoir, the ph might need a tweak though. How well does your solution store?
This stock solution doesn’t seem to store well at all… mixed it up and put it in a bottle. Right after mixing it smelled heavy of chlorine and by the next day I could barely smell anything. Really need to get myself a chlorine testerYou are supposed to mix 1 gram per gallon of H20, then use 1oz of that solution per 5 gallons of water in your rez.
are you against just measuring it out per dose? This stock solution doesn’t seem to store well at all… mixed it up and put it in a bottle. Right after mixing it smelled heavy of chlorine and by the next day I could barely smell anything. Really need to get myself a chlorine tester
No not at all. Though .1 gram per ten gallons to create 1ppm was way to high. I mixed up one gram, dumped it into a just over 40 gallon system and destroyed my roots. Ended up chopping everything off. Honestly I’m just frustrated. I’ve tried multiple solutions advised from different people on here amd nothing seems to work.are you against just measuring it out per dose?
I have, yeshave you ever checked your scale? does a dime weigh 2.268 grams exactly?
So I’ve come across a number of articles stating that any ammonia based product such as general hydroponics ph down will cause the chlorine to gas off and render it useless. Even my dry fert has ammonia based things in it. This may be causing the issues I’m dealing with. Any thoughts?have you ever checked your scale? does a dime weigh 2.268 grams exactly?
i use GH pH down too. it's phosphoric acid. don't think it has ammonia in it.So I’ve come across a number of articles stating that any ammonia based product such as general hydroponics ph down will cause the chlorine to gas off and render it useless. what fert/ph down do you use in combination with pool shock?
