Portland area greenhouse grow

your guess is as good as mine. i am starting to chop this gal down today, she is not finished but her nugs are dense and somewhat starting to turn.

the ladder you see is a 5 foot step ladder, she grew into a wide, low bush as you can tell.

she is also a magnet for budworms and i have already chopped an ounce or two from her :cuss:

i will post the dry yield in about a week or so. test your abilities! :eyesmoke:

also, a zucchini squash the size of my forearm for fun.

i could have sworn that a few people guessed the yield last year and got it dead right. 1.3 pounds.

anyhoo, i built this for this year. thought i'd share.

Looking forward to watching your progress. I'm in the PDX area as well, when are you putting you ladies out this year? What strains?

plan on putting them out mid may or so.

for sure we have:

WMD
rainwreck (not trainwreck)
black domina
headband?
god bud?
and one more, either NYCD, star trek, blueberry, or any number of other strains.

about 3 weeks before i put plants in the ground.

for a soil mix, i am thinking of using approximately:

*6-10 bags of soil, likely fox farm, roots organic, or a mix of the two
*1-2 bags of compost
*1 bag of peat moss
*1 bag chicken manure
*as much earthworm castings as i can afford

this year, no bottomless 5 gallon buckets, the mix will go straight into the ground and i tilled out all of the grass. i will still be adding lava rock around the base of the plant as a pest deterrent. there will be more fans, including two in the back for exhaust and one or two oscillating ones in the front for circulation.

any comments, tips, suggestions, or help you can lob my way is always appreciated.

hey ub! Nice looking grow. I am out in cali now but was born in Cottage Grove which is just a lil drive to portland, so showing you some Oregon love.

I am very interested in your greenhouse. you said you built it for under 300? I was wondering what material you used for the plastic? And how does it seem to hold up over the season? I have an indoor grow running, and am getting 12 plants ready for outdoor this year but would love to try to keep stupid caterpillars to a minimum, they are a plague out here. Something about the cali heat must make them extra horny or something.

it's 3.5 mm plastic, 10x25 sheets. took 4 to do the whole GH. $40 worth of plastic, but staples and tape cost almost as much. gotta use the good tape, the 11 mm all weather tape that is about $8 per roll.plastic holds up fine over the season, but i would go with 6 mm if you want to use it over multiple years.

hows it going ub? hows the temps in there?

pretty excellent in the GH. the fans are installed and control temps/moisture well.

i have my final six strains picked out. will try to have pics tomorrow. need to till out the rest of the GH, dig holes, fill with soil mix, and plant.

my lineup:

WMD (big bud x f'in incredible)
GDP
StarTrek
God Bud
Black Domina
"#1" <-----------(a strain that a cancer patient gave me, kinda leggy indoors but he said it did well outdoors)

weather is kinda shitty, but expected for this time of year. it is cool and wet right now, but our spring so far has been excellent. nothing to complain about.

got the GH tilled and the holes dug and was about to snap a pic of the plant lineup when the camera battery died. maybe tomorrow. i'm beat.

it's time for a shower, some beer, and couch time.

tomorrow will be filled with making the holes more uniform, tilling and raking all the soil that came out of the holes, buying the soil mix, and filing the holes. might even transplant, too.

it's nice being ahead of the curve this year.

i'm kind of sad now that all the hard work is over. i love the grunt work and labor.

side note: i was out there enjoying a beer when it suddenly started to rain. then it became violent rain. and hail. and lightning. and lots more hail. and lots more violent rain.

we almost never get lightning storms here. it was supposed to be sunny today. now half of my veggie garden is underwater. was trapped out there for a good half hour.

That's what's nice about the greenhouse, huh? Weather come what may!
Looking great

peace
doublejj

if the hail got any bigger, i was going to start worrying about the integrity of the GH. i only went with 3.5 mil, not the 6 mil (good stuff).

no leaks or tears, but there was some puddling from underground water in two corners.

the ladies' biographies:

GDP. i've never taken her outside before and only flowered her a few times indoors. but she seems quick to fnish and the nugs finish super dense. the density may or may not be good outside, we'll see.

2184718d1338004609-portland-area-greenhouse-grow-cimg2500.jpg

god bud. did a god bud last year in this same spot and it turned out ok for a first try outdoors. early to finish indoors but late to finish outdoors. turns purple if it gets cold. dense buds with a strong high. this plant and others may appear yellow on top because i just took clones from their top the other day.

black domina. she is my star indoors, finishes in 45-50 days with dense piles of aesthetically pleasing nugs. outdoors? who knows. that is what i learned last year. this plant appears smaller because she is from a more recent batch of clones, wasn't even fully rooted in her 1 gallon pot when i transplanted.

#1. she is a shitty plant to grow indoors, but a good producer. long branches that fall over from the weight of the nugs. unsure of genetics, was given to me by a cancer patient. he called it #1 because it did the best for him outdoors. this is my 'gamble'. i bet she'll be the star, lol. she seems to enjoy being outdoors the most of any strain so far.

WMD. she did well outdoors last year, turned an awesome shade of pink at harvest time. beautiful nugs. i wish i got to her in time last year. i grew two and had to throw away almost all of 1 and half of the other. fucking mold. we had a bad october and i missed her by 1 day. looked 50-70% fine oct 9th, was almost all mold the next day. will manage harvest duties better this year and not put myself in a similar situation. this plant is kind of ugly, but just wait. WMD does not fuck around. she's a monster.

star trek. i just got this cut at the end of last summer, have grown her indoors a few times, and am in love with this strain. looks like a leggy fucker, but harvests are sneaky huge! i feel like she'll be a good match for the outdoors.

if anyone has any information on how these strains would do in a climate like mine, do tell. and thank you in advance :)

well, we have our first thief.

went to bed around 4 am last night, woke up around 9:30 to discover a hole cut in the back of the GH.

they took a half dozen plants i had vegging out there in 1 gallon containers. the perimeter of my property is tilled out for a veggie garden, and no footprints out there. so our robber baron came in through the back gate, cut a hole in the back of the GH instead of using the front door, emptied out the crate i use to carry nutes, filled it with 6 vegging plants, and took off. i did find a couple of footprints in the GH, but nothing i can really use.

they have horrible taste in plants, they took some of the most finicky plants i have. have fun smoking leaves, little thief.

my neighbor alerted me the other day that a kid was walking down the street, taking notes. passed our property, sat down, wrote something, and circled back two more times. her vantage point on her porch is hidden from view, so the little joint caser had no idea he was being watched in taking his notes. this was about 5 days ago.

whoever did this has every reason to come back. there are more vegging plants out there as well as the ladies in the ground. i was not expecting any security concerns in MAY so i am eagerly anticipating catching this kiddo.
