Just found out today my daughter is pregnant! Yay! i'm happy! but i would like some input from ya'll about smoking pot during pregnancy. I didn't with any of mine, but my sister did and there weren't any complications with her. my daughter doesn't smoke all the time, but her baby daddy does, which increases her exposure and temptations. i've never read anything solid about adverse affects or dangers to the baby from smoking but maybe i missed something? i have warned her against the class x prescriptions (xanax, zoloft, adderal, etc.) but would like to be able to give her (and baby daddy) advise regarding MJ. Help me out here RIU!

its a touchy subject, there has only been 1 study I believe. I guess the best thing would be not to ingest anything while pregnant you do not need to

Congrats! I know of a few people who were either around it or actively smoked while pregnant and they had ZERO problems.

I'm with Sunni. 9 months of clean, healthy living. There are enough risks out there, why add another. Baby Daddy needs to commit also by eliminating any temptations. IMO

when i was having my kids 20 some years ago, there was NO information...so i played it safe and gave them a clean mamma to grow in, so i'm inclined to push daughter in the same direction. i really like baby daddy, so don't get me wrong, but he really likes his bud! i think he'll be my biggest obsticle.

and THANKS for the grats!

I'd be more concerned about eating meat and produce loaded with chemicals than I would about herb but I get the apprehension...I do agree with the 9 months of clean living on the off chance it does create a problem all I mean is there are way worse things a pregnant woman can ingest and they aren't "illegal"...but still congrats on the pending grandparenthood...spoil em rotten!!!

My first wife didn't smoke much maybe 3 or 4 times in 9 months. I would think not smoking is the right thing to do.

Melanie Dreher, who is the dean of nursing at Rush Medical Center in Chicago, did a study in Jamaica. It was actually published in the American Journal of Pediatrics in 1994, but now it’s re-circulating because of all the interest in the neuroprotective properties.

Basically, she studied women during their entire pregnancy, and then studied the babies about a year after birth. And what she studied was a group of women who did smoke cannabis during pregnancy and those who didn’t. She expected to see a difference in the babies as far as birth weight and neuro tests, but there was no difference whatsoever. The differences that the researchers did notice, that are unexplained and kind of curious are that the babies of the women who had smoked cannabis — and we’re talking about daily use during their pregnancy — socialized more quickly, made eye contact more quickly and were easier to engage.

Now would it be the smoke that causes problems, or would it be the psychoactive properties that cause the problems? Bc if it's the smoke... then medibles.

I could imagine smoking would alleviate A LOT of the stress

People also once went around thinking it was fine to chief cigarettes while pregnant, probably a major contributing factor why I was born prematurely, have asthma, and other health problems. Though I believe that eventually the harm from smoking cannabis on an unborn fetus will be proven to be minimal or nonexistent, I would not take the chance until more is known, more studies are done. That is your child you are fucking around with in there. It deserves every chance it has to lead a long and healthy life, and fuck I think it's the responsibility of the parent to do everything in their power to make sure this is realized, including setting down the pipe for a few months.

mmhm hate to say it but thats a human life you could be fucking with and while some people say its okay and some dont it's not 100% I wouldn't chance it!

I would say the risk from just exposure in the room, is all but nonexistent. The amount of smoke in the room from enough to catch a buzz isn't enough to reduce her oxygen intake to the point of harm. Which is the main threat of smoking I believe. You take a drag off a cigarette, and that breath has no oxygen in it for the most part. Plus it doesn't hang in the room like cigarette smoke. I can only speak from my experience, but my wife and I were HEAVY smokers when she got pregnant. She stopped smoking cigarettes completely. I smoked as usual, and she took 1 or 2 hits off the pipe sometimes. My baby was honestly the happiest baby I have ever seen. Not just saying that because he's mine either. I'm sure there's is a risk, but it's very minimal if she does like my wife did, and keeps smoking as minimal as possible. I personally wouldn't even worry about just being around it.

i believe her biggest challenge will be her occassional anxiety issues. i am adamant about her not using xanax while she's pregnant - my sister took it during her last pregnancy (i got 3 sisters!) and i love her little girl to death but there's something a little "off" (her eye is funky) maybe it's nothing but they classed that drug X for a reason. daughter uses mj to alieve her anxiety.

there are other non harmful things to use for anxiety biggest one id suggest is Bach's Rescue remedy spray View attachment 2531157 it is 100% natural and homeopathic as well takes 15 seconds to work, you spray it or there is a cream one as well
