Exactly bro, they will feed themselves for at least a week or 2. I've made that mistake and burnt my babies, would hate to see anyone else have to go through that. Nice set up by the way. Great for clones too.

The only problem with germing in paper towels is the possibility of disturbing the fragile root. Personally the best way I've found is to place the seeds in a cup of water until they sink, which generally takes 12 hours or less, take an 18oz solo cup like the kind you may have played beer pong with, fill it with root substrate and water until completely saturated (obviously drill holes through the bottom of the cup for runoff). Then take a pencil or pen and poke a hole 1/8th to 1/4 inch deep but no deeper! Place the seed in the hole and cover it, don't water again until they are up unless the soil crusts over, 2-4 inches away from fluorescent light. I've had a 100% success rate with this method and just germed some rare dankness dark shadow haze in coco. No plastic wrap needed, keep it simple!

Don't feed yet and pH shouldn't really be an issue for a couple weeks but you can if you want.

Yeah I haven't used the paper towel method in like 20 years. I soak mine in distilled til they pop tail then straight to final pot for autos, straight to Rockwood cube for hydro, or straight to starter pot for my photoperiod plants

The only problem I've heard about using RO or distilled/boiled water is that they contain less dissolved o2 (oxygen). This could potentially lower ones success rate because if left in water for too long, once popped they drown. You can use a 10% hydrogen peroxide solution for added o2. Oxygen will only speed the process.

I use h2o2 in my hydro solution but as far as my sprouts go I've had over a 90% percent success rate over 10 years this way. Never had them drown on me. Just no longer than 24 hours after they crack they go into the growing medium

There's arguments for different methods. The pros of the paper towel is you don't waste time or space. I've had 6/6 that way at different times. Put in towel, into a bag (to retain moisture) and onto of my satellite box. Check once a a day. Even if you go direct in the pot don't water or you'll drown it or sink it making it harder to push through. Be patient

It's trial and error, what works for someone might not work work for you. Once you find out would works for all aspects of growing you'll be laughing, buddy.
