question about a recent bust

ok so a guy got busted yesterday.

Story goes cops show up with helicopters above, they take plants that were planted outside, they go into a barn that had its door open and then they leave.

However, they did not go into the house so one would think they didn't have a warrant or "right" to do so. It seems the helicopters saw the plants outside and the barn door was open so they had cause to go inside.

So my question is why didn't they go inside the house? Is having plants on your property not enough probable cause to go inside or would it be used as evidence to gain a search warrant for the house?

I'd go with the latter. Usually probable cause would have to be on an emergency level. From the sound of it they were happy with what they got and inside might not make a difference however I'm sure they'll be back.

yeah the plants outside and in the barn were in plain view which means they do not need a warrant to come on to the land or go into the barn. now that they found illegal evidence there now is probable which they will use on a search warrant for the house and entire property. i am sure they are at the courthouse right now getting the judge to sign it.
or MAYBE (and this is a very big maybe that i would bet against) they for whatever reason were satisfied with what they already have to prosecute.
