Question for dog lovers

Ive been wanting to adopt an American pit bull terrior for awhile.

What I cant decide is should I get a male or a female.

Growing up I only had female dogs. But most of my friends had male dogs.

To be honest, i dont care for the moment a male dog gets excited and puts his lipstick on display. Not to mention the incessant leg humping that comes with the territory. LOL.

But on the other hand I dont want a female do who will grow those huge nipples. Also females are normally smaller and weaker than the male dogs.

Help a brother out!!!

And yes, I have my heart set on a pit bull. They are the most loyal dogs, sometimes it seems they can read your mind.

First off, Nice that you are interested in the APBT.

have you ever owned one before?
I have an male AmStaff and a female APBT.

Females are way more energetic. Training has been longer for my female then my male.
My male is more ignorant and is hard headed. Don't take this the wrong way thou. They are a good breed and regardless of what you get, male or female you will be happy.

I thought I would like the males more, but seems I take to my female more . I dont know if its because im a male and its just how it is.

But then I am also more strict with my female so I also spend more time with her on training because she needs it.

If you want to talk more PM me and we can go back and fourth forever about this breed.

Wow!! 17 years old! You cant beat that.

I'm starting to think that I should just let fate decide on what dog chooses me. I guess male or female doesn't really matter.
Its what I did. I didnt go in asking for a male or female. I let the dogs pick me.
Turned out good. Everything will need work regardless of age, gender or breed. Just be loving, dedicated and patient and things will always workout.

this guy i worked with is super into american bullies.. every day on his fb page, he must put atleast ten new pix of different peps dogs.. i have learnt so much from just looking over his posts.. he used to fight his though, which i'm not a big fan of..
i have always wanted a british bull terrier, i just love how silly they look, and they are supposed to be very loyal and loving, but they do tend to fart a lot according to howard stern whom has one..

ya our pup started chewing on our finger tips and climbing in our lap at the shelter and that was i. :-P 400 pairs of shoelaces, corners of furniture, one bottle of vicodin and countless hit from us plus the contact buzz

i don't think they get the nips unless you don't fix them. I fixed my girl when she was 8 months or so and she's got nothing more than my boy. i odn't know if it varies from breed to breed but my girl dog is a lot smarter than my boy. my boy is extremely loving and can always win me over with his doofy cuteness. my girl is so beautiful and gets loads of attention but she always wants more. the boy is less trouble. he will sleep with me until noon if i want. the girl is up at 8am and wants to eat every day of the week. she's smart and she has an agenda. not sure if it's a girl thing. I had a girl dog when I was younger and she wasn't like this. my girl dog also plays frisbee and she is extremely fast and precise, it's incredible for a small dog to do this... the boy just loafs around but he's so nice. whichever you get you will love - i am sure it will have its own traits. i love pits, sooooo cute.

boy doesn't always mean leg ilft, my boy doesn't lift his leg and he doesn't get excited unless he licks himself too much lol. that's always entertaining... he doesn't huump people but he does hump dogs like mad!!! i've seen hiim try to hump my bf but he would never do it to me because I am the boss. It's good to have 2 so they have each other. mine hated each other at first but now they never seperate.

No, I have never owned a Pit. I have had many friends with pits. And I always loved their character. Like I said before, some of the smarter ones seem to be able to read your mind. Very loyal.

Is that a golden retriever or a yellow lab?

Either way they are both highly energetic dogs who make me laugh.

I've always had rescue dogs, regreatably some have been so miss treated.
When your looking at the dogs raise your hand quickly and see if they duck, if they do they most likely have been hit.
And if it was beat by a male they may never trust you even if you never hurt them and they will always cower and could turn on you.
That sucks to have a dog that squats and pisses allover everything when you raise your voice.

My boy is a 3yo South African Boerboel & he has very much the bull dog temperment - very loyal & loving. If you opt for one of these or a simular (Mastiff, dane etc...) be advised they can have a "Wet mouth", after drinking I make it a habit to grab the swiffer mop & cruise around a bit to pick up the drippings.
Not that big of a problem, but if he gets startled & barks while he's drinking & you better be ready for a clean-up.

indoors and out male dogs like to mark everything
Not necessarily - over the last 30 years or so I've had 4 males (Pit/Rot/Lab mix, Lab, Rhodesian Ridgeback & Boerboel), and each understood very quickly the "You go outside" rules there has never been an issue. I do currently have a very small female mix terrier that we rescued 12 years ago (and she potties outside faithfully) & as much as I love that little girl (and have never struck her) she will still cower on occasion if you catch her off guard. Breaks my heart to see it & I cannot imagine someone taking pleasure in terrifying such a small beautiful creature.
As for females developing large nipples, that is usually only after they throw a litter, if she never gets pregnant then her nipples will be no larger than a male of the same breed.
And again Puffer - sorry to hear that your BF is at the end of her journey.
Thank her for being your faithful companion and concentrate on the good memories.
GWN

Edit: The Boerboel in the pic is not mine - didn't have a pic handy of him, but as you see this bitch has very small nipples.

(That just sounds funny to say !)
