Question from a noobie about curing.

This is my first harvest ever guys, so please try and bare with me. Just got done chopping down and manicuring the nuggs off of my first yield. Came out better than I had expected since all I did was watch youtube videos online to see how it was done. However, now I am faced with the problem of seeking out the many, many proper and preferred curing techniques out there. I looked up some youtube instructionals on the subject coming up to the harvest (although none were by any sort of "professional" grower which is why I'm worried), and made due with what I had to get a rig set up for it. I kept in mind the mason jar technique, since that seems to be the star option. But it takes far too long to finish the process and unfortunately I am not that patient. That being the case, I put together a kind of "middle of the road" deal.

So this is what I've got...
The buds are laid out evenly in a large tupperware container, which is lined with wax paper so that it will be easy to remove any kief/hash remnants left on the bottom. I made sure to leave enough slack on the paper so that it will hang over the lips of the tupperware to create a bit more of an airflow, as the lid is just placed on top without pressing it down to seal it completely. Just beside the buds I placed a small fan facing toward the ceiling to keep the air cycling in the area. It's also probably worth mentioning that they're placed in a small dark closet (I doubt the light has any effect, but you never know...) with one of the two sliding closet mirror doors half way open for ventilation. (And it smells incredible, even through the near sealed container)

If anyone has any notes on anything I might be doing wrong, and should change immediately, PLEASE respond ASAP! And if the set-up is okay it would be great to get some confirmation on it, just to ease my worried mind. :)

Thanks all!

Best way to dry is to hang them upside down in a dark room with a fan blowing with humidity no lower than 40% and no higher than 55%

I wouldn't use either a tupperware container or wax paper. Wax paper for one thing doesn't absorb moisture and a tupperware container doesn't allow moisture to escape, especially if the lid is on. They're almost certainly going to mold.

I always go with hanging in a dark room with a gentle air flow until the stems are close to snappin, then finish of in jars.

Take a lil to quick cure to keep yourself happy.

why wait so long growing then rush one of the most important parts. Trust me you dont want to smoke hay flavour, I find the jars are key to locking in the smell and taste.

You've waited this long, what's a little longer for the best product? Use the jar method after hanging in a dark are a few days. Take a small amount out to tide you over if you must, but don't ruin the whole harvest by botching one of the most important steps

You mean you're putting them in tupperware before they've dried?

Keep your weed away from plastic containers and jar 'em only when they're dry on the outside... Glass jars.

As the others have said glass jars are an excellent way to cure more cost effective then trick cedar boxes. Kind note if you go the glass route, open the jars at least twice a day for periods of about 15 minutes until a period of two to three weeks.

Wow! Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I would have probably ruined the whole batch. Okay, so since I don't have the necessary items to hang the nuggs in the closet (No string, no twine, nothing like that) I've moved them to a glass baking pan and put them back into the closet. Will this be a decent temporary fix?

All you need is a closet and hangers. Hang the branches on the hangers using a branch crook. Easy and free

Okay, didn't end up hanging them on the dental floss, but I did hang them on the little wire frame racks that are in my closet. Kind of an obvious choice thinking back on it... Oh well. You guys think this route will work then?

How many plants? What strain? Did you weight it wet or waiting until it dries? Gonna make any hash with the frosty trimmings?

It's such an amazing feeling to have a harvest. I've been smoking for 13 years, and this is the first time I'm getting around to a grow. I planted 3 seeds initially which I purchased from the sensiseeds.com seedbank. (Unfeminized, which I now regret because two of them turned out to be male...) The strain is "Double Gum". It's scent is just incredible. My entire house smells like fire bud, and it's coming from a room in the far corner! Kept the trimmings for bubble hash, which is going to be a first for me as well! SO looking forward to the finished product.

I want to thank you all for the kind help. Definitely going to be using this site as my hub from now on. You guys are a great community! I'll keep you posted on the continuing process, for sure.
