Hello guys I'm growing in Deepwater culture this is my 2nd grow and I can figure this problem out I'm thinking it's possible broad mites but I need opinions I'm using gh flora series 2 part my plants that are in flower are really yellowing up at week 4 and my plants in veg goy strange holes n a weird color my pH is between 5.8 and 6.3 anything helps guys

I don't have experience with broad mites or what they do since we don't really get them where i live but the rust on the leaves says you need to use some cal/mag

Definitely get a scope, and check underneath the leaf....(I was thinking thrips, but maybe not :confused:)

I keep a set of Lupes to look for critters,I would hit them with Neem oil for 3 days since they are in veg.Nuke the growroom too before flowering.

Sure looks like a mite attack to me........ but indentifying the type is another whole ball game.

Could be broad mites. New growth damage is a good indication. Broad mites are very tough to eliminate.


If your plants are young, you can apply TetraSan or Forbid 4F. Both are not cheap and they are strong. They are systemic for a period of time, thats why it's important to use this as a last resort only when your plants are young. Broad mites will kill plants. If you can clean your room of them and get new clippings, do so. If you can't, TetraSan or Forbid 4F is the solution.

Forbid 4F is not systemic, but you can spray the tops of leaves and it will travel to underneath, killing the mites below- which makes it easier to apply (it's called translaminar activity). You can look for minute quantities (like a 1/4 oz) resold on Ebay for around $20.......

The normal dose is between .5-1.2 ml per gallon. Last crop, I accidentally sprayed it at 5 ml and realized it shortly after. I let it dry overnight for 12 hours, then went in and sprayed the plants down with fresh water the next morning with no ill effects to the leaves........

I stand corrected! :)

Either way, use it early. It does work well.

My mites only show up in flowering........around the 2nd-3rd week. So I apply around 7-10 days into flowering and only have to apply it once per crop. Late in flowering if any mites show up, I just remove the leaves, which by then doesn't effect yield, and allows the light to penetrate better to lower buds.......

I also use Bayer 3-1 to kill mites and everything else on the floors, walls, pots, etc........which I spray a couple of times each crop.

I wish I could help. Nutrients are a guessing game unless you actually know what you're feeding.


If you're worried there's an issue, feed at 1/2 the rate you normally do for a couple days then revert back to normal strength when you see the plant recover.
