Or something like that.
On mine I wait till 6/ 7 sets of true leaves, then the top 3 I trim off really close so the light gets through the plantThe fan/first leaves are still green but are blocking sunlight/cfl light to the bud leaves which are also coming strong. I just want to remove fan leaves where bud leaves are growing big.
Good or bad idea?
Well, translocation is a real thing. Read at least the first paragraph of this article, especially "Leaves are particularly interesting in this regard because they are sinks when they are young and become sources later, when they are about half grown".

Anyway those big green leaves you strip off are carbohydrate sources, not sinks. They are producing the energy that drives the plant, producing it in the big fan leaves and shipping it off to be used elsewhere in the plant, i.e. buds, roots, stem etc.
Light does not have to hit the bud to be used. It's gathered by the fans, converted by photosynthetic magic to carbs, and shipped wherever needed in the plant.
I can see where at times some defoliation might be warrented, like if you have a dense foliage/air flow/mildew problem, or an insect.
Simply my opinion but leave the green alone.
removing healthy fan leaves will stress your plants and ran growth stagnant, besides fan leaves collect sunlight, turn them in to sugars your plant need to thrive, your sugar leaves cannot do what the fan does as they are receptors of the sugars collected by the fan leavesThe fan/first leaves are still green but are blocking sunlight/cfl light to the bud leaves which are also coming strong.
