They will develop but no where near as big, as nice, or as sweet as they would have been had you left the plant to grow naturally. Take it as a lesson learned, fan leaves are the plants solar panels, they collect energy for when the sun/lights are off so you're plant can grow. Removing so many at one time is detrimental to your plants potential

Also, make sure you have the right information before you take action. Sometimes, such as in this case, its better to do nothing at all.

No offense to you but you're friend is a bad grower or just wanted you to do poorly.

Fasho, I asked the same question when I first started growing and a lot of growers are torn about it, some say don't remove any EVER because the plant need as much energy as she can get and then other say pinching off some here and there over time can be beneficial if done properly; but we all seem to agree on this: removing too many/all the fan leaves in one sitting is a BAD idea if you want to harvest buds

Yeah I grow a 2x3 scrog and I almost have to remove some leaves from time to time but it kills me to do it.

i been wondering about selective pruning thats why i read this thread so are u saying strategic pruning is ok pruning to expose bud sites ?

I try to tuck leaves as much as possible but like I said I grow a small scrog so I get a dense canopy so I prune out maybe half the fans and all unneccesary growth under the screen with no problems. The key is to not take it all at once. I am 6 weeks into flowering and I still take fans.

Any one who gives an answer to this is most likely from personal experience and therefore is speaking objectively. So really, its up to you. We can recommend however and I recommend you prune as little as possible and space out the prunings, let your plant recover as it can stress her out

But really, I think the best way to expose budsites without harm to your plant is to just tuck the fan leaves under the budsites they cover. This does take time because the leaves eventually make their way back to their original position so you have to continue to do it but it is most likely better over all for your plant
