Reserva Privada Tangie and Rare Dankness 501st OG

Here are more pictures from a day later. The Tangies are still not liking the soil. All the 501st OG are looking pretty decent except for the one that I noted was the most affected. It has developed some burn all the way around the edges of the fan leaves that is obviously nitrogen toxicity. I guess I should just stick to Happy Frog or Promix in the future. they are both consistant and cheap. I do not even like to use Ocean Forest for seedlings because it is too hot. This Miller Soil is even hotter. I'm sure it must work great for big established clone plants that are supercropped and defoliated but these seeds are certainly not digging it.

After another 36 hours they are starting to come around. The tops all appear to be growing normally again. I think they will get a few more days of veg time in this tent under the T5s and then about a week in another slightly warmer tent under a 1000w Blue Daylight bulb as soon as I can move the seeds that are currently in that tent into the flowering room.

After another week and another 1/2 gallon of plain water each the plants are looking pretty good. They are getting used to the soil and all the new growth looks fine.

A couple of the little ones that were messed up after the first transplant are starting to come around. I have just been giving them a little bit of clean water.

Looking good. I'm a month into a pack of 501 st myself and they are very vigorous

Right on. Feel free to post a picture or two here and we can compare phenotypes.

I will do that. I have a journal with a few strains I'm running. I don't think I have any good recent shots. I'm waiting till after Christmas. Hoping for a better camera.

Disregard the title I'm growing these under 1000 watt hps and my other lights are seeing action with different strains.

Looking nice. The 501st OG sure do have the giant fan leaves going on just like the Skywalker OG cutting. They are just as big in diameter but have a slightly more pinnate shape.

What are your thoughts on the tangie? I got two reg seeds as freebies

So far all I can really say is go as light as possible on the nutrients. Some of the plants cannot handle much fertilizer at all. This goes for both liquid nutrients and the soil mix itself. The plants themselves are really bushy so I think they will probably yield pretty decently. I have just started them flowering so I will post some more detailed pictures when I sex them and take cuttings next week.

do you know what the EC/ppm of the solution was when you fed them? I think you target at that time might have been EC 0.8 or ppm 500 ish

I suspect it was that feeding that started your trouble... looks like nute tox for sure too much N something blocking zinc

the newest growth looks to have rebound..

the new growth also shows some taco shape which is mild magnesium def

at this point don't be afraid to feed them just keep it low (700ppm or EC 0.9) and get them some magnesium and check the ph (ph rise can also cause Mg reduction) test the first few ounces of waste from the bottom of the pot

see what the ph and EC of the run off is

I only fed them once back when I transplanted them from solo cups into 1gal pots. The solution was a little bit on the high side at 800ppm but most all the plants except for the 3 Tangies had no problem with it. I usually will give this mixture to plants when I am transplanting into recycled soil that has been depleted of nutrients so that the plants will have something to eat while whatever amendments I have fixed up the soil with are breaking down since I don't usually want to spend weeks cooking it. This was not really necessary since I planted them into Happy Frog soil fresh from the bag but that mixture shouldn't really affect anything unless it was a plant that is extremely sensitive to the nutrients. Since that time I have not given them anything but clean water adjusted to ph 6.2 with a little Orca in it to help break down the nutrients. The soil I used when transplanting them from the 1gal pots into the 3 gal smartpots is a new blend from a local soil company called Miller Soils and it is really strong and seems inconsistantly mixed. Even two of the 501st OGs which had no problem with the initial feeding started showing signs of nutrient burn immediately after being planted in this soil. My friend is also currently growing two of the Tangies that he got as freebies from an Attitude order and he had the same problems with both of his. I don't think all the Tangies have this problem but one of the phenotypes is very sensitive to nutrients. All this information is in the previous posts.

Day 5 of flower. I have now sexed and cloned the plants. 6 of the 10 Tangies were female. After putting them into the flower room under a 1000W HPS light, some of the Tangies are already showing some slight burn. Apparently if it isn't one thing it is another with these plants. I would not recommend this strain to a novice grower. I think the light was a little too close and this is causing them to try and metabolize the nutrients from that hot soil too fast. After sexing and cloning them I moved the females underneath my big LED light which I raised practically all the way up and only turned it on to half strength. The 501st OG plants are not having any trouble with the HPS light and they are even slightly closer to it. The flowering tips of the Tangies have faded yellow a bit but most strains do this upon transitioning to flower and I don't think it is a sign of any problem but rather just what this particular strain does.

Tangie #6 - This one looks pretty small and weak

I took clones of the biggest, nicest male as well. Even if none of these females turn out to be keepers I figure I might as well just make a cross with all the other elite clones that I have. This was the biggest, healthiest and nicest plant out of all the Tangies.

This plant and one of the other males also have a unique double-bladed feature on the fan leaves. I have seen this a couple of times with other strains and it isn't indicative of anything really special but it is worth noting.

Only 3 of the 9 501st OGs are female. I am calling 2 of them "undifferentiated" right now but I am about 95% sure one of them is a male and about 80% sure the other one is also male. Kind of a bummer to only end up with 3 females but sometimes that's the way the cookie crumbles.

501st #1 - This is the smaller one in the 2gal pot.

501st #2 - This is the biggest and nicest female.

501st #3 - This one was the one most affected by the hot soil. I stripped off the burnt up fan leaves.

I also took clones from 2 of the males. The biggest and nicest plant from the start was the one I planted in the 3gal bucket and it also has the most side branching. Definitely a good contender for a cross.

The second male I took cuttings from is more of the standard vertically growing kush style plant that has a really fat stem and the biggest fan leaves. It looks like the #2 female.

The two 501st Ogs that I thought were males were indeed males. The 9 females continue to do their thing under the big LED. I have watered them with a solution of Canna Bio Flores and Age Old Organics Cal-Mag both at a rate of 10ml/gal at a PH of 6.2

Day 29 of flower. The Tangies all look ok except for the fact that the nugs they are growing are very small. At a month into flowering I would usually expect the flowers to be much larger but maybe this is a strain that just comes on late. All the Tangie cuttings had issues with powdery mildew while they were in the cloning tub. None of the other 60 or so clones in the same tub had any problems or died but most of the Tangie clones died. I think at least one of each will live except for number 5 which had all 4 cuttings die. Go figure that number 5 is also the one that looks the best so far in my opinion.

On the 501st OG side, numbers 1 and 2 have develpoed some male flowers underneath some of the nugs. Number 3 looks like crap but at least it has not developed any stamens as of yet.

This grow has kind of gone sideways on me. Oh well, I guess it goes to show that they can't all be zingers. I really don't like this Miller soil that they are in and I know it has been giving these plants issues so I will certainly try and grow all these plants again to see if I can get some better results. Plants are living things and sometimes it can take them a couple rounds to adapt to their environment so I'm not ready to crybaby about it or pass any sort of harsh judgement on either of these strains.
