So for those of u that have had to endure my grow and all the questions that I’ve posted, I apologize and pray this is the last time.
I’m growing 3 Super Skunk Autos from Homegrown Cannabis co. (Kyle Kushman’s outfit). Growing in Ocean Forest under HLG 320w led’s.
These autos are on their 17th week…..yes 17….not a typo. And they’ve been flowering since around day 28-30. The way I see it I’ve made 2 mistakes that could lead to slow maturation.
First, my temps were in low 70s and I understand they really need to be higher for optimal results.
Second, I defoliated the plants way too much about a month ago. What started as taking a few big fans to let light through turned into a massive whack job and all the big fans were gone. Then the stress killed off and yellowed most of the remaining leaves. Don’t ask what I was thinking b/c I wasn’t.
Anyway, I’ve continued to feed light nutes (tiger bloom) up until the last watering, at which time I gave just water and I made it very cold…..I was told it would speed up the trichs.
I’m of the belief that a plant needs to be fully ripe before the trichs are considered as a gauge for harvest. Ripe, to me, means no more white pistils, presence of fat swollen calyces, and frosted over.
One of the 3 has gotten that far…..we won’t get into the other 2 right now.
This little lady is not the biggest but is my kind of bud…..hard as a rock and all knuckled up.
I’ve included pics to show it’s progression. First is Dec 20…..then pic with my hand is Jan 5 as the last wave of white pistils had showed. And the last pic is this past weekend.
It has been in its current state of ripeness for a solid 2 weeks, yet has very few amber trichs.
Most trichs are milky white but still a few patches of clear ones. What’s weird is I’ll find a small cluster and half or more may be amber, but the rest of the bud has no ambers.
Overall I’d say maybe 3-4% are amber…..and it’s barely creeping up by the day……if I didn’t examine the plant every morning it would be impossible to see a trend.
So to summarize, I started checking trichs about 2 weeks ago when the last of the pistils turned and the plant wasn’t producing any new ones.
I found a few random ambers.. I’d call it 1%. Two weeks later that 1% might be 4%….just a few more but barely. I’d say the clears outnumber the ambers 2-3 to 1.
Now I can wait another week or two and see how they progress…..Ideally I’d like to see 25% amber. But this morn I noticed a couple areas right on the bud tips, where the trichs look like they’ve been freeze dried. Maybe they didn’t ever exist in the mushroom shape but it worries me that more areas like that could start to pop up.
Any help is appreciated…..has anyone ever had a plant that is clearly mature with trichs that won’t amber? I mean don’t they automatically age from clear to cloudy to amber??
I don’t want speed racer weed….and this strain is supposed to be indica dominant.
I was thinking of putting the plant into 36-48 hours of darkness. Can or should it be put back under the lights if the darkness treatment doesn’t produce the desired results??
I’ve already taken the light schedule down from 20/4 for 13 weeks to 16/8 for 2 weeks and have been at 11/13 for 2 weeks.
The buds are hard as rocks and could do some serious damage in a bar fight. I know they’d probably be potent as hell. But like I said I really don’t want a heady/speedy high.
Thanks to all for the sound advice that has already been given.
This grow is kinda like herpes and luggage….once u have it u never get rid of it…lol.
